The difference is in being explicit with permissions. That said, JSONP is one of the ugliest (but useful!) hacks ever invented. For more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same_origin_policy

This is some screwed up stuff, as nearly every WebSocket library and tutorial really encourages treating them as discreet messages. This should be fixed post haste, because very few people really want a stream based protocol for web sockets

Well, I agree and I don't agree. I'm personally not a huge fan of node, and I prefer to write non-blocking code in Aleph/Netty (which is closer to twisted in terms of potential to block due to blocking java libs) myself. But, I can understa

I've known a few developers that use Django or Rails and have no idea how things work underneath. This is a disadvantage. Seriously, that's not even an argument, it's an anecdote of dubious validity. My personal experience as a rails deve

I use both rails and sinatra. Sinatra is great for small things and beginners. However, if you're going to spend all day writing web-app code, learning rails pays off HUGELY. It's the full package for modern web-app development, with massiv

Why, on the blog, does the Director of Communications at paypal use a headshot that looks like he's trying to stare you down before killing you? Oh wait.

True, I was having some issues with bubbling the events up correctly while dragging over the canvas, so I wound up just merging the rock images in once dropped. That's also why you can't move them once placed. It's something I'll be fixing

What a painfully bad article. Press releases can be disingenuously upbeat and straight-jacketed. From the hip snark this over the top is just as bad. Even innocuous statements in the release are torn apart. What a joke.

Very cool! You've easily written the best UI for this kind of thing I've yet seen (though a language syntax picker would be nice). Quick question though, why redis vs something disk based? Are you worried that if this sees a lot of usage yo

Well, he divides the world of photography cleanly into two sorts of people. And given the tone toward my piece, it definitely sounds like I'm in the group that's in the author's good graces.

Yes, so here technique really matters. You want a photo that looks professional. So, my article was written with a fine art perspective, but you aren't making fine art, you're making a brochure. This is where you need to learn about lightin

I didn't mean to be condescending in calling Peter a developer. The article really isn't about Peter, it's about the legions of technical photographer developers out there, probably why that title was on my mind.

Hey, that's me! I think you may have missed my point. Norvig's post, in and of itself is mostly fine--though I'd say the tips on composition in there, which you must have missed were poor--but within the context of the present day, with boa

That's a fair point. I think it's a great thing to read slowly for engineers new to photo (for the average person it's way too technical). I'd say as a rule don't try and put everything in there together at once. By the time you're don

Well, I'll agree that I kinda trailed off toward the end of the post. The point I was trying to make was that you'll have to figure out all the non-tech stuff for yourself as an individual experience. There's no book for that, no checklist.

I agree it's orthogonal, I make it clear in my post that it's an option, but only one of of many. Some shots need technique, others are fine with a polaroid. There's nothing more to say about it.
