What’s your point? Say everything you just said again, but with software engineering and Indians, instead of manufacturing and the Chinese, or textiles and Vietnam and Pakistan. There’s no reason American cars need to exist either, they bas

The only thing I've never understood about the HPV vaccination is that for some reason after a certain age as an adult in the United States, no primary care provider appears to recommend you get it in addition to your regular vaccinati

Interesting, it looks like you can use ´global myvar’ now, as compared to ´myvar’ implicit globals, say from back in 5.1, or ´local myvar’. It’s worth noting that global is a reserved keyword now, so environments that had a ´global()´ funct

There's a lot of ecosystem behind it that makes sense for moving off of Node.js for specific workloads, but isn't as easily done in Rust. So it works for those types of employers and employees who need more performance than Node.j

I don't care what you other people in auth do, I work in auth too, please stop making signing into anything 5 steps. 1. First I get redirected to a special sign-in page. 2. Then I sign-in with my email only. 3. Then it finally asks me

More often than not, I’ve seen web pages that are more easily scraped than one could connect to an official API. It’s so weird. It’s like in many cases companies don’t really care, so of course people are going to scrape your pages instead.

It’s such an uncreative name, anyway. It’s like something you’d read from a hardware engineering GitHub repository where the author was oblivious to how searchable the intellectual property would be.

One of the most popular API frameworks is called “FastAPI” but in any meaningful benchmark it’s one of the slowest commercially used pieces of web software the industry has adopted. There is no hope for large segments of the industry. We ac

You’re not missing out on a lot. Coming from someone who has used their products for many years now. Their products have more compromises and trade-offs now than they did during Apple’s Intel era. What you will tangibly miss is low noise, l

Casks won’t be able to bypass Gatekeeper, so now you can’t launch .apps from brew that aren’t notarized. So, you might as well just use the App Store.

Yeah, I'm aware the same behavior is available, but this proposal creates a call trigger on the dependency which requires far less analysis on larger projects to understand where the import needs to be moved to. You have to create wrap

I've noticed that instead of defining requires at the top of Lua files, if you can know your own program well enough, defining them right before the dependency is actually used makes large Lua programs much, much quicker. Generally spe

I haven’t actually seen it in the wild yet, just talked about in technical talks from engineers at different studios, but I’m interested in designs in which there isn’t a traditional main thread anymore. Instead, everything is a job, and ev

It’s common in phishing schemes to either have a non-functional site hosting only the payload or one that hosts a full front appearing like a normal website, usually a blog with news.

I've also gotten good results just dropping the connection if it hits the application layer, and you can't get CloudFlare to return the desired behavior first. Not ideal, but it seems to work against primitive bots.

Equities also lose and gain value. There's a reason to hold cash when it's preferrable to lose real, time and inflation-adjusted, value versus losing to speculative equities or other securities. But go ahead, downvote me since you

This isn't true. You're all implicitly claiming that all assets return nominal value above inflation, which isn't even remotely true when we teach it to pimple-faced undergraduate students.

At some point, inevitably, bonds have to appear more attractive. Until those, too, get bid up until their coupon rates become effectively worthless compared to bank deposits or worse, inflation.

As someone who pretty strictly adheres to Apple Human Interface Guidelines, it's really off-putting to see them slip so badly backwards on their own published work. There are now portions of iOS that use either iOS 18's UIKit, or
