I've downvoted your comment, because you claim without explanation that "gas taxes and congestion prices are different", and therefore the article is foolish. Maybe you're right in some meaningful way, but showing that w

This thread by Atul Gawande, a doctor, analyzes recent death data from Massachusetts. Several interesting notes, especially this: "The starkest differences in death rates are not by race or gender, but by level of education. People wit

I've downvoted this because it seems like you're trying to be insulting to this person on the basis of an assumption about their gender. That doesn't seem worthy of HN.

The counterexample to your claim is FamilySearch.org, which worked with Reclaim the Records on digitizing a set of records. (It's a nonprofit run by the LDS church, which is a behemoth in genealogy records.)

Your comment on the public not knowing the difficulty of climbs reminded me of a great piece about a juggler, which includes this: "Jugglers don’t have to perform difficult tricks to entertain people, because audiences generally don’t

Note that some services will allow you to upload a spreadsheet of SNPs which you got from another testing service. If the police had access to a non-commercial lab, say a state-run lab in California which can sequence a similar set of SNPs,

It's pretty difficult to argue that NYC was "designed for cars" in the same way as Houston when much of it was designed in the pre-car era. See for instance Manhattan's street grid designed in the 1800s, and large parts
