If you have a second check out MUI, which is a lightweight Material Design framework that addresses some of your technical concerns: https://www.muicss.com Let me know what you think!

I think the Material Design spec will evolve but the design principles are sound and the paper metaphor is useful. With MUI I tried to focus on the core elements and leave the more stylized design decisions up to the app designer.

You can use mixins from the source SASS files to do most of this. I was thinking about formalizing it and including it in the documentation but I wanted to get some feedback first. https://github.com/amorey/mui/blo

Thanks! The drawer isn't a UI component provided by the framework (it's custom code in the documentation).

Can you point out which animations feel too abrupt?

Agreed! By design MUI only implements some of the core features of Material Design so that sites don't start to feel like they were designed with a certain framework.

This sounds like very interesting analysis. You can actually get the data using the Octopart API ( http://octopart.com/api ). I'd love to see the results so please let me know if you do the analysis.

There are other manufacturers in the top 1000 (e.g. Cypress, Adesto, Atmel) but currently the list does seem to be heavily weighted towards Microchip. This is a first stab at a component price index so it's a work in progress!

Thanks! It's great to hear you found HNSearch useful. We were very happy to power search for HN but we haven't been able to dedicate much time to making it better. It's exciting to see Algolia iterating on HN's search fu

Here's another way to check on the status of the HNSearch crawler: http://api.thriftdb.com/api.hnsearch.com/items/_search?limit...

The result limit is in the HNSearch API for performance reasons and hacking around that limit will hurt performance for other users.

If you query the HNSearch API in real-time you won't run into problems with the 1000 result limit. There are 8 comments where PG mentioned "clojure": http://www.hnsearch.com/search#request/comments&q=clojur...

We've been focused on increasing engagement, conversions and API traffic and have made quite a bit of progress there but those metrics aren't included in the Quantcast stats.

The HNSearch crawler was behind due to an IP change related to our move to an AWS VPC. Everything should be up-to-date now: http://www.hnsearch.com/search#request/all&q=ask+hn%3A+w...
