I'm not sure what were arguing to be honest. You definitely don't need to understand Turing machines to understand how computers work, and certainly not how to do programming. But as far as understanding computer science, computat

Turing machine works going left or right writing/reading on a tape of 1s and 0s. Your CPU works on RAM writing and reading 1s and 0s. CPU in principle isn't that different and is largely just using a more sophisticated instruction

I don't see how AI is making it harder to make the subject more interesting. Homework certainly isn't what gets people interested. But regardless I don't buy that, especially in college where you pick your own set of classes.

Perhaps we should reconsider the purpose of teaching. If one does not want to learn, why are we teaching them?

I've been working on a drawing/animation library/language based on patterns and abstractions. On one hand the idea seems so simple and intuitive (Define patterns (like 3 red blocks to the right), combine patterns ( 5 up * 3 r

So 1. being able to bring your own story come to life automatically is cool in itself, and would result in a lot of creative media that is not possible now. Do you know how many people have their own stories, plays, etc that are dying to fi

I don't think that's true. Is a film director not a creative? You could come up with your own story and direct the AI to generate it for you.

I filed for "YUUUGE" in the Trump era for my mini cooper, saying it was ironic, referencing the cooper's small size and it got denied it for inappropriate sexual reference.

What if I said in English, you can "compound" words with adjectives so for example if you have a book, you can add red and say redbook, and you can keep going and do stuff like uselessoldreddirtyneverusedbook. You can even add pos

Thats a huge benefit. Dont you hate that every service requires you to give them your identity? As I said most sites I dont even give a shit if my account gets hacked. Do you think HN for example would be better off if they decided everyone

I dont care so much about passwords as I care about how annoying the current implementations are. Passwords do have some benefits. They dont require a phone, it being charged, and fetching it 5 times to go through a couple services. They ca

If they're sending the OTP to the user, its because the OTP is being checked client side, so you might have been able to just call the authentication endpoint directly.

Implementing state isnt very difficult. I think youre thinking of a very static use case again. Link to page number doesnt make too much sense when the data changes (and do you really want to refresh the whole page just to change the table

I am comparing modern countries so that relatively a lot of the factors, like access to food, stay the same as the US. My question is, why does Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, France, Denmark have a <20% obesity rate, and Japan, South Korea

I don't think its accurate to say "weight loss occurs primarily through co2/oxygen exchange". CO2 being breathed out is the just the end product of weight loss.

That's a good point but consider that a lot of modern countries, were not seeing the same obesity epidemic. Its hard to believe the difference between say 5% obesity and 40% obesity is from metabolic disorders in populations. >While
