I met some people who do not know how to write correct code (maybe because they do not have a correct model of how computation works all the way down). So the 'trick' of one guy was just to work as fast as possible so at least the

Agree. I am thinking in C++ you do not want to read the std to learn the language.

Personally I would add integration and measure theory (the sigma algebra and lebesgue stuff), but there seems no such module?

So when will your crystal ball be ready, could you then asap adress the issue? Also keeping spare crystal balls would be really helpful.

So reducing petrol demand (let's say by switching to electric cars) might reduce the economic incentives of carbon capture significantly, interesting thought.

The big difference is that they knew they could make it fast. It is like you are a carpenter and say you have a table in stock which you didn't build yet. The big difference is she didn't have anything and no viable path to delive

Yes. But let's say the investor thinks: sure the point to point is silly, but the real market is to compute with the Ariane programm, and space x will win; it is still justified to invest. Of course if the space x launches so far were

Looks like victim blaming. While this might be justified, the article doesnt give enough substance to do so. Also I disagree that Holmes is a scapegoat here (expect if you could make a case that she is not liable for her actions).

Not just for the allocator. I always thought a main point of a garbage collector was heap compactification (shuffling things around so there is more space), but maybe I am wrong.

Very good point. Here is my take: maybe beiing able to build an audience is the main driver for success for a business (of course you also need a product). So the survivorship bias happened before you followed him. Or more positive: maybe a

Haskell does not really have pointers, but let's say it does (or that ioref fulfills it). How would you then (as an example) declare an array of pointers pointing to functions accepting int and returning float declare in Haskell?

I still do not understand what the problem is and what users need to know. So assert throws and exception in debug mode and is 'commented out' in production, right? So the problem is some vendors ship libs that have failing assert
