Yeah, the landing page sold me on clicking "start reading", but was sorely disappointed after I clicked. Too much friction just to read a page. To your point about limiting anonymous access in order to create a community like HN. HN does

Yea I agree. From what I can tell from the blog post, they aren't even close to the limits of what mySQL can handle if properly configured unless they are running it on some kind of super tiny virtual machine. Seems like they just jumped

Not that I disagree with the conclusion of the article, but I bet you can come up with an equally impressive set of stats showing the Republican party coming out ahead. If the article wasn't so one sided it would have been stronger.

Yes. It's like asking if it's ok to require CSS 5-10 years ago. Javascript is pretty ubiquitous and consistent (even in mobile browsers now). The web has moved on and so should you.

If you're a web shop, IMO, none of the Java web frameworks are ideal for the fast prototyping that most startups need to do on a regular basis. I've hated every Java web framework I've ever worked with and I've used most of the popular one
