IPFS would be an interesting experiment too. Mainly I want to try it with Tahoe because of two features: convergent encryption (basically a way of deduplicating encrypted blobs) and capability based security (a way of doing access control a

I want to try building something like this, but using Tahoe-LAFS[1] to store the packages / images, so that you could get de-duplication for free, and capability based access control. I have no idea if it would be feasible in practice

I remember finding XSS and XSRF bugs in one of their things like 9 years ago. I'm not surprised it still sucks. I posted it on the full disclosure mailing list, and IIRC they ignored it as far as I could tell. This was back in 2010. (A

Yeah, if you have to constantly remind everyone why you shouldn't be fired, that doesn't sound like a very fun job to me.

Won't they just jack up the price each year like Netflix has been doing, in order to recover their original investment?

I think most animators still understand that, and they know how to do animation properly (make it expressive, use brighter color palettes, etc), but I'm guessing that a lot of the producers and people involved in this particular film j

To be clear, it doesn't look like this is written any different from the actual RFC, just formatted and organized more nicely. For actually understanding the RFCs, I've found it useful to crack open wireshark and then look at an

The paper is wrong when it says incognito mode only ensures your browser history is not stored. It also ensures that any session cookies are not shared between private mode / regular mode. Obviously that doesn't rule out other bro

I don't mean it in a disparaging way. Most software sucks to some degree so the goal is to find something that "sucks less". Pretty much everything can always be improved on.

If you're a community driven project or organization using Slack, then take a look at https://zulipchat.com/ for something that sucks less, and is open source software. I've found it much more pleasant to use and

Interesting, I didn't know that about lactose-free milk. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Milk can really spike your blood sugar levels as well, so I would be careful. Go for the whole fat type of milk rather than the skim milk or whatever.

From some of the comments it feels like this is also intended as a way to research different ways of doing Lisp surface syntax without sacrificing the features of the macro system. I'm not sure if it's possible to do both at the s

I quite liked this proposal from a while ago: http://shriram.github.io/p4p/ The idea is basically to remove implicit `(begin ...)` and then remove the trailing parentheses from many things. For example: ``` (define (f

That's (one) of my issues with this whole thing. Why would we want to emulate human intelligence exactly? Human intelligence is incredibly flawed. Giving it more memory and quicker processing power won't necessarily lead to any sp

How do you give a computer domain-general intelligence (as opposed to the combination of a bunch of domain-specific skills like language, math, visual recognition, speech processing, etc)? There is a lot of evidence that human intelligence

I've found https://www.npmjs.com/package/elasticdump to be VERY useful for doing things like copying indices and recovering data. Much more than the built in stuff.

This video of a talk that Bram Moolenaar (the author of vim) gave at Google in 2007 has some pretty good advice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX9m3g5J-XA Mainly the idea is to not try and learn everything about vim, but

For most programs, you can just use PlusCal instead of straight TLA+ and get most of the benefits. Unless you're writing something that is heavily concurrent or distributed.

From the projects they mention, the only one I can see really benefiting from TLA+ would be memcached. For most things it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to use it, unless you're writing a potentially distributed app. If you jus
