Yep, thats one of the public services that I looked at initially, but there was no way I was willing to give an unknown third party access to the complete contents of my inbox.

The promotions tab is just a filtering mechanism, it doesn't mean that you'll get more spammy promotional email?

its currently targeted towards Gmail users because it specifically looks for the "All Mail" inbox which Gmail provides. I'm working on allowing users to configure the inbox name, which means it should work with any email prov

Hey HN, I got frustrated with the amount of daily spam in my Gmail "Promotions" tab -- especially since it made searching for email basically impossible. While there are services that will help me unsubscribe from all the mailing

You can actually clone/checkout a "merged" PR provided by Github: git checkout --force refs/remotes/pull/119/merge They generate it async behind the scenes, so it may not be immediately available after you

A while back I made a reddit post asking for help finding a tool that would manage/generate ssh config files for all our jump/bastion hosts. There was some interest (and great discussion), however no-one submitted a tool that solv

To be honest, I wrote GitMask for myself. Yep,if anonymity is really important to you, a VPN and/or TOR is required. GitMask just ensures that you don't unintentionally leak personal info. GitMask is open source, so if you don

I think that's pushing past the goals of GitMask. As much as possible I want to leave the code as is, as the developer intended, while stripping all personally identifiable information and metadata.

Yeah, adding a privacy/retention policy would be a good idea. Under the hood its pretty simple (and open source), just an AWS lambda squashing the commits and stripping metadata before pushing to Github. Potentially you could tie the c

I get that, but at the same time, there's a ton of reasons why a developer might not want their name attached to a bunch of code. As a maintainer myself, I can respect that. If the PR is important enough, I'm more than happy to me

I don't really want to go down the rate limit route quite yet, but it could be an option.

Fair enough, the examples could use some work. I kinda just threw the landing page together without thinking about it much. I'll take another pass at it.

creating another account is an option, but Gitmask also strips github comments, strips the author info (which comes from your ENV and .git config), and squashes the commits. Just in case there's any data leakage.

To be honest, I was worried about that as well. But it's been pretty good so far. Gitmask always adds a comment in the PR mentioning where the PR is comming from, so in the event of any projects/repos getting spammed, I can hopef
