The quirkiness of Zig is real. I'd love for Zig to win out but it's just too weird, and it's not progressing in a consistent direction. I can appreciate you falling back to Rust.

My takeaway from this is people are still turning a blind eye to the shenanigans of the much larger mainstream markets where shit like this happens all the time but is not amateur. The whole system is rigged. Yes, crypto too.

I disagree. Most people here myself included aren't using Java or .NET. You are in a microcosm in this audience.

Alpine is not as good as it seems. It's mostly broken it just works when you ask it to run a handful of common tools. Everything out of view is completely broken.

I would agree. Linguistics and literature have always been a strong interest of mine, and many computer scientists. Moreso, I find weaker programmers struggle with spelling, grammar, various dyslexias and torrent-of-thought code organisatio

Uh yeah duh. But I through waiting for him to discover hash in the shell. No such luck. Guess it's in the magic somewhere. (Do man hash or something if you have no idea what I'm talking about)

Love the software on homebrew but I really wish the tooling was faster and less opinionated. I dread being forced to update tons of stuff I never asked for, or the huge delay after many commands. I also have to use an AI to write my formula

P2P when done right isn't even noticeable. Libp2p and ipfs have tainted the common experience of this. BitTorrent DHT which people don't even realise is there is how it should be

This. There are errors and states you cannot predict. As a grandchild comment says: It's easier to provide solutions than to list all the errors. Find your happy path and write code that steers you back on to it. The code will be short

No. Chrome flat out rejects certificates that expire more than 13 months away, last time I tried.

BitTorrent v2 has the incremental hashes via merkle trees. They're surprisingly good. I implemented them here https://github.com/anacrolix/torrent/issues/175#issuecomment...

I've been using Go since 2011. One year less than the author. Channels are bad. No prioritization. No combining with other synchronisation primitives without extra goroutines. In Go, no way to select on a variable number of channels (w

I like it but the defaults are super annoying. I'm always trying to find things I can't otherwise but it defaults to ignoring git dirs and dot files, literally the thing I search for the most

Exactly this. If CloudFlare, any "relay" were compromised, all traffic through that would be compromised. That's everything. All your bank details, full access, it's all right there. The selling point of SSL is nobody

CloudFlare is the 3rd party. Try implementing what CloudFlare does yourself. You will very quickly realise how it works. It's actually pretty crazy.

Maybe if we weren't letting a third party sign arbitrary certificates for arbitrary domains they wouldn't be reading our passwords. People don't realise CloudFlare is a MitM-as-a-Service.

This is good to see, but I think too much effort is being used to maintain the prefix style function application. As a result a significant amount of the novelty is just mapping syntax from new to old. Special cases, special cases everywher

The naive assumption is that shared_ptr is always better than manual tracking. It's not. Tracking and cleaning up resources individually is a burden at scale.

I have been watching with interest. I can't help but think Rust will easily win. Zig isn't different enough, and it's somewhat opinionated (in good ways but not always clearly better)

I reported a bug in their mmap syscall on Apple Silicon. You can hard freeze the computer in about 4 syscalls (basically system C functions). It's still there and they won't fix it, or acknowledge that it's a vulnerability. T

I don't buy it. DHT systems have mechanisms to handle hotspots in the network.
