I own (and love) the Barbie computer engineer doll. I keep it on my desk at work. But the book is beyond belief.

I wish companies would quit making hardware and just make apps for the existing hardware. I am so tired of having to have multiple boxes.

For my day to day work, I use PHPStorm and PyCharm. But, I've been working on a bunch of exercism.io problems in various languages, and figured I'd give Coda a shot for that. I ended up absolutely hating it. Couldn't get t

The demographics of Vermont makes me curious. Many people say that the war on drugs is racially motivated in that more blacks and hispanics are prosecuted than whites. Vermont is 95% Caucasian. I wonder if this fact influenced the new po

It seems to me, this could actually drive sales for Quento. People will play the Quento lite, and not like the ads. They will go to buy the full version, and find Quento.

I've been a professional programmer since 1997. I've worked for defense contractors, consulting companies and medical software shops. I've NEVER had a problem with my gender in the workplace. I've always been treated t

Seems a bit expensive to do everything that way. But, I can see the attraction.

Just a little side note. I really wish people would give an overview of what their service is or does in press releases like this. Quite often, I see 'Facebook bought x' or 'Dropbox bought y' and I click to see what it

Yes. There are some things that people can't realistically do without. I worked as a stringer for the local paper for some years. In this capacity, I covered local water / sewer authorities. The typical cycle went like this.

Of course, the ink-sellers would just promptly raise their prices. But, it's still a very creative way to approach the budget issue.

Agreed. And, they haven't raised the prices in years.

As long as you can target your content to the various different types of people in your life, why does it matter if they are all in one place? You don't stop using your phone because your parents have a phone too. What Facebook needs

At one company, we use the Development, Test, Beta and Master branches unless we are working on a major, long-term feature. Then, we create a special branch for that. At the other company, we use one branch for every FogBugz case. They b

Then maybe governments should stop doing things that require people of principle to have to make the difficult decision to leak state secrets.

One mild criticism. A book such as this is really going to depend on the author's reputation. You buried the info about yourself way below the fold. I'm also not certain about the price. I would pay that price from a big name.

I think one possible problem is that there tend to be other positions in tech companies that do have to work fixed hours. (Tech support for example) In our company, the tech support people don't have flex time and everybody else does

It sort of makes sense for demand to be low right now. They just released a new operating system. Typically, new hardware will follow a few months later.

See, I don't necessarily think your generation (or any generation) has to pay. What they DO have to be willing to do is to share their expertise and talents as well. If everybody is willing to contribute free content as well as consume it

I really take issue with the article's title. The tech community doesn't have a problem with feminists. It has a problem with dingbats who make a mountain out of a molehill in order to garner attention for themselves.
