I have a milder form of this hallucination every few months or so. Certain thought patterns related to "arbitrariness" trigger it, for example asking why earth has the continents it does, a question to which there is no satisfying

Nope there is a real pattern -- they cluster along certain polynomials. Trying picking random points on the black squares of a chessboard (same condition that you stated), they won't make obvious lines like that.

The above situation is definitely a shifting equilibrium rather than feedback loop. Like, everyone getting a 3% raise won't make the city unlivable overnight, it probably won't even increase cost of living by 3%
