This article starts with a conclusion and works backwards without any legitimate attempt at analysis. For example, I have no idea on what basis one could argue that a fixed "real estate fee" is more rational, effective or fairer t

Not at all. At ~170k USD (220k CAD) in Ontario, you'll be hitting the combined top marginal rate of 54%. It's true that California+Federal will be within a couple points of that at their top marginal rate, but that's 1m+ in C

You lock your doors because you don't trust your _neighbors_? That's madness. Companies often face legal requirements that your data is truly gone, e.g. see the European Union's Data Protection Directive. So it's not jus

People aren't blacklisted for leaving, that's blatantly false. Your story is obviously missing some key elements. Median tenure does not necessarily indicate retention issues for core roles at any company. It could simply be rapid

That is very nearly what they are. The compiler actually just transforms everything channel related into function calls within the runtime package. The majority (probably > 99%) of the implementation of channels and select is Go itself.

It seems to be that as long as you're malicious (I.e. deliberately hiding items), then that's on them. At least that's what the implied contract is to me. Otherwise it's just a "self checkout" app.

I wouldn't take a press release from the company as evidence that the deal actually closed, especially if you suspect some slightly shady dealings.

What you're saying is of course completely true, but it also means that "I'd be happy to pay my $45.71 per person per year" is equally invalid as a indicator as to whether some public good or service is worthwhile. I bel

I don't personally think it's a commentary on government, but it's a reasonable conclusion. It was John Maynard Keynes who famously said (talking about government stimulus) that the government should "pay people to dig h

I'm sure that this is already a factor in some cases. As the article notes, companies are likely to maintain lists of specific companies they don't want people moving to and will offer retention bonuses to prevent it.

No, it requires only two threads to trigger the race. Two processes are not needed.

Interfaces aren't pointers, they are a value type (it's a tuple as you describe). The distinction for typed nil is useful because some receivers may work with a nil value. This whole thread enumerates the disadvantages pretty clea

I don't really get why it's seen as "reusing" the memory. i++ is obviously changed the value of a single i variable. Who thinks it's creating a new i somehow?

With named return values, the defer can modify them. For example: func Foo() (err error) { defer func() { err = errors.New("some error") }() } The function will return the "some error" error.

It's not two types of nil. When a nil value is converted to an interface, it carries type information. When an interface carries type information, it isn't nil.

AFAIK, there's no good way to "broadcast" messages without bouncing through a user space co-ordinator. The current primitives just don't match this kind of need. Presumably, this inefficiency could be a bottleneck for so
