I was wondering about that. I guess at the altitudes the SR71 operated at, at least the brighter stars would be visible.

Classic regulatory capture play. Create regulations so onerous that only a company with the resources of Facebook can operate under their restrictions. Lock in your dominant position. No small competitor can get a foot in the door.

For most of us here, probably not. For shift workers or those who otherwise work a strict schedule, it at least requires a fair bit of advance planning if not close to impossible.

In the time it takes to drive to a customer, park, and set up, a barber could probably do 3 or 4 haircuts if he were working in a shop. Are customers willing to pay 4x or more for that convenience? Probably some are, but enough to sustain t

It's what they promote themselves as to the public. I don't get out of my obligations as a public accommodation just because my hotel makes money by also having billboards on the property.

A lot of the fake research recently uncovered at Duke University was related to studies of the effects of pollution, ozone, and particulates.

Good point, and that's why there are two pilots. When stuff goes crazy, one flies the plane, the other one runs the checklists.

The trim wheel always moves on the 737. It's physically connected to the stabilizer. If the stabilizer is moving, the trim wheel is moving. Otherwise, yes I agree. A lot of stuff probably went crazy in a short time for them.

MCAS only operates at high angles of attack, higher than normal flight would encounter. The reason it was even a factor in these crashes was the bad AoA sensor readings. If the AoA data had been correct, MCAS would not have been changing th

This might be splitting hairs, but MCAS is not there to prevent stalling. It's there to meet a specific certification requirement on control stick forces at high angles of attack. Yes the intent of the requirement is to reduce the tend

Yes, easy to imagine a chaotic situation causing distraction, or hyper focus on the wrong thing, etc. What I have gathered from reading other forums about this, many pilots say they would interpret any significant undesired trim as a runawa

Cause is always complicated in an air crash. We don't officially know the cause of either of these crashes. When MCAS was established to be a likely factor in the first crash, Boeing issued an emergency airworthiness directive to all o

As I understand it, no. But airspeed, actually Mach, is an input to the calculation of how much nose down to apply. I.e. the higher the speed, the less trim change is needed to achieve the desired effect.

In the USA, pay at the pump transactions for fuel are still 100% mag strip as far as I've seen. The POS terminal inside can typically do chip transactions, but not the pumps.

I'm going to let the pilots decide whether it's reasonable. I don't know anything about flying a 737 and I'd wager that 99% of the people posting here don't either. If the US pilots unions are okay with it, I'l
