Once I had a manager justify his employment at Palantir by saying he helped troops detect and avoid landmines. Well cool, they still murdered people after getting past the minefield though.

Fairness and morality aren't the same thing. Just because something is fair doesn't mean it's moral e.g.: splitting the baby in half, an eye for an eye, etc. Morals are a specifically human societal feature.

They're not. There are ethical options for animal products. You draw the line at any consumption is unethical so you disagree, and that's ok, but you're not gonna convince me by saying it's unethical because I don't

Ok, but it might get long. And again, I'm not looking for an adversarial discussion. 1. Animal Rights Animals don't have rights because rights are a human construct. Absent humans, animal rights don't make any sense. Animals

They're not fallacies, they're fundamental disagreements. 1. No, animals do not have rights. 2. No, animal lives are not morally equal to human lives. 3. No, eating animals is not cruel. If you disagree with these then that's

Yeah, that's consistent with the research. It seems like the body really likes to stay at a given weight, so it adjusts so there's not too much fluctuation. That's why it's really hard to lose weight and keep it off if y

You're not providing citations either. Get off your fat hating high horse. Walking and exercise make a HUGE difference in average weight. Just look at Canada, a place mostly analogous to the US, but with way more walkable cities and be

"Exercise" is a bad way to lose weight because what is traditionally considered as exercise is 30 minutes to 1 hour of high intensity activities. If you live a sedentary life, exercise isn't going to help. Passive exercise, t

The closest hack is living in a walkable city, and biking for personal transportation. There's a reason that obesity is not as big a problem in Europe, and even more so in East Asia.

There's people that don't do all that and are still fat, and making them "feel bad" about it is counter productive. In fact, the research on losing weight is quite clear: once you've put on weight, losing it and kee

Your theoretical argument against bikes is actually just a practical argument against cars. Most people hate driving, they do it because they have to. Cities ripped apart streets to satisfy a minority of the people.

I can see that, and I think that's a great way to use LLMs right now. But I worry that people will start taking their word at face value and not verify. Not to mention the areas that are difficult to verify.

It really does not seem inevitable at all if you know how the tech works under the hood. The trust problem can't be solved with the current approach.

The point is that you can't trust it because language models are bullshitters. What's the point of a search you have to verify through another search afterwards.

I agree with you about routing. Something so core about building web apps should be treated as a first class citizen of the ecosystem. I don't think jotai adds a lot of complexity though, and like I said most of the time you don't

Every time a housing discussion comes up someone comes in with this argument. If you stopped to think about it you'd realize how silly it is. Renting doesn't need to be handled solely or even at all by the private market.
