People really don't appreciate how brutal humidity is on our bodies' ability to cool down. I run my AC more to dehumidify than to cool. I hate setting my AC below 78, that's freezing, but I have to because of improperly sized

No need to apologize, precision is important. Perhaps my point blurred two different things. Point number 1 (directly referencing your question): No, I did mean it's easier to heat than to cool. Basically every mechanism release heat,

What I'm interested to see is when/if a camera like the Lytro will be put into a smartphone. Does it work if the pixels are much smaller than the diffraction limit?

by amrcnimgrnt 5y ago
Diffraction blurs the image even for 10MP, given the small lens/sensor. The other 98 MP are used to remove noise, especially at low light

Study it a bit while it's still warm and look up your local weather. [1] The COP gets worse as Delta(T) increases and heat pumps are nowhere near the theoretical best, so at a certain point it's better to use gas. But that's

If you live in a cold climate, buy a mini-split (a type of AC that also works in reverse). ACs are very efficient (more than 100%!). By using an AC to heat (a Delta(T) in my city of at least 30C) your home in the winter you more than offset

Ya, Im very confused when people talk about heat pumps as separate from ACs. My new tenant got super excited when I used the word "heat pump" to refer to my AC.

How do you know how deep the support for regime change is in Minsk? I mean, using primary sources. It's easy to fill a plaza with people. And Minsk's regime is terrible. But I was duped into supporting the Iraq war in '03. wi

No because pastafarianism is a funny, if aged, joke among atheists. You don't sincerely believe in the spaghetti monster, and the courts could hold you in contempt. But why would an atheist who likes to mock religion want to live in a

But I'm not comparing Switzerland to China! I'm just pointing out that this kid had a really naive attitude of where our rights currently stand in the West. And I think the story is the proof - the kid got canned.

Tell me, is your country one where loosing your job would be considered a relatively trivial or benign punishment for mouthing off? Because in my parents' country they would have been thrown off an airplane for what this kid did. But I
