You're not wrong. I returned the two sub-$100 phones for a full refund. I had rooted the $240 phone, which broke it's ability to (easily) get system updates. I sold it on eBay for maybe half what I paid for it. So my downside

I have an LG G5. I'm very happy with it. At one year, I replaced the battery, and only because I could. If you are in the USA, what mobile carrier/network do you have? I use AT&T, and the network has been good enough. I tr

I never thought about scaling down as a skill until just now. I kind of assumed "scaling up" implied up && down, our maybe "scaling out" implied out && in. Interesting thought.

I went through that process. After I stopped buy good phones subsidized by the phone company & started paying full retail phones upfront, I became less interested in having a top of the line phone. I just don't wanna fork out $90

I saw Shane Robison give a talk about the HP+Compaq merger. [1] He advantage that came from the merger was getting more shelf space in retail stores. Having some influence and/or control of what got displayed in the HP shelfspace and

Every book in the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. It character driven sci-fi. My non-sci-fi friends introduced me to it, and being a sci-fi lover myself, I enjoyed it that much more. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w

> We’re dumb in comparison to the systems we’ve created. I prefer not to think like that. I'd say we're doing our best to navigate hard problems, and it's not yet clear how to do things more effectively. Worst case scena

It's hard to imagine leaving them in there AND living with the knowledge that they had been left in there. Attempting a rescue seems like a pretty human thing to do, and I found it hard to blame people for being people. I certainly d

For any non-trivial program, I usually end up with: working jank, maintainable jank, fast jank. If I can write something that works AND isn't a ball of mud, I'm pretty happy.

I think it also might be easier to get interviews and job offers for specialist positions where there's less demand. I'm not prepared to make a strong case for that, but I did feel like selling myself as a Ruby on Rails developer

I am not an expert on this subject, but the answer depends on the country or countries where you hold citizenship. If you are a US citizen, it's almost certainly less hard to get jobs when you can physically interview, so moving to Si

It's not a bad deal, especially when you consider you could live with minimal expenses while in the military. Saving a lot is not hard even on modest military pay when your living costs are all covered. I can't think of any othe

High scalability is somewhat subjective, and often not that interesting. It's relatively easy to design an inefficient solution and "scale" it by throwing more machines at it. It's hard to reduce the footprint of somet

I had a base PCjr with 128K of RAM, one 360K floppy disk drive, and no hard drive. Copying disks took FOREVER. I was so jealous of my friend who had two disk drives on his PC.

I liked it, too. I didn't expect to feel anything for Ted's side of the story, but I felt the series did a good job of making him come across as a human being (who just happens to blow people up by sending them bombs in the mail)
