A few years ago I took a job 4000km away, and I got rid of everything in my apartment. As I boarded my departure flight, I was carrying everything I owned in a backpack and carryon suitcase. I didn't even have checked luggage, and I

Having recruited several hundred people, I can say with certainty that several ~12 month "regular" jobs is not optimal for projecting career stability. It's not a positive most of the time.

I'm amused that Elixir feels like the best language I've ever used, and yet I can't tell you why. I love (most) everything about it. It's kind of like trying to say you should meet my best friend Bob; no matter how muc

I'd consider using gigalixir in the future if I have a need to host/run a personal+stateful app. Looks neat. Will have to check it out sometime. Bookmarked.

I recently made myself sit down and learn leex (essentially lexx for Erlang), and I found that to be an extremely useful exercise. It helped me understand how to think about what kind of inputs a parser can make use of, and when it makes s

They beat the market until they don't. Patterns that generate better returns don't last. In this case, everyone sees that outperform rated stocks (OSR): - OSR yield better returns - OSR demand increases - price of OSR goes up -

Amazon seriously pisses me off these days. Here's an example: - search Amazon.com for "1 tb usb flash drive" - the first hit (for me) is a fraudulent drive for $26.99 USD [1] - there's no mechanism that I can find to rep

Using Airbnb, I rented an entire 2 bedroom apartment in downtown Belgrade, Serbia for about 13 days. With fees, the price was $380-ish USD, just under $30/night. It was a really good deal!

I told myself I'd avoid Erlang at all costs. Then I decided I needed to know how leex and yecc work, so I got down and dirty w/ Erlang. It's close enough to Elixir that I can stumble through my way through it.

Reminds of when UC Riverside released some stingless wasps to prey on a whitefly infestation in Southern California. This was in the early 1990s. I think this paper is relevant, but I only scanned it: http://ucce.ucdavis.edu
