Is there any way to search or filter by tag? Right now you can just look through all the photos, but once you have more photos it would be nice to be able to filter them.

I think that part of the ugliness comes from having so many contributors and a culture that is used to things not having a consistent look and feel. On OS X almost all native programs look and feel the same way and the frameworks and tools

Yes, but I don't think that's more true of TailCallHelper than of any function calls using a stack. This sounds like it's saying that even with tail call optimization it's possible for the arguments to a function to be too big for the stac

Someone mentioned in another HN thread or a comment somewhere else that none of those sites are actually paying anything yet, so maybe they're hoping that by the time they have to start paying they'll be making enough money to make it worth

The MIPS architecture is also not going anywhere, but its use in desktops and laptops computers is still minimal. Since ARM seems to be gaining popularity in the personal computer market where it used to have no market share I wouldn't be

Have you had any issues with data loss after a crash? I've seen a few people in the IRC channel saying that they lost tens of millions of records after running a repair after a crash. While replication can help prevent data loss, having t

I've done some similar testing with my ZFS pool with excellent results. I have hundreds of gigabytes of rarely used and easily compressible data that I store as gzip-9 and all of my data is at least lzjb compressed. I also experimented a

How is it game over? Palm still has a great product and they aren't out of money. They're not doing as well as they had hoped to do, but that doesn't mean things aren't going to turn out well for them.

What makes you think it doesn't run on Linux? From the article it sounds like it only runs on Linux since they say "contributors outside of Yahoo! can choose to build the code on more modern, non-Linux OSes as they see fit."

Heroku says that four dynos is one CPU. So you pay $106 per month for one CPU. So for $121 per month you get 20GB of storage and one CPU, which seems really expensive once you consistently need resources. Before you consistently need res

That makes sense. MacRuby is using the Objective-C runtime as the common denominator but I'd love to see other languages do that same.

Why do you need HLVM to do this? OCaml already runs on multiple platforms, so all that's needed is some library work. The same is true for Haskell, Standard ML, Lisp, and many other languages. If you want to write languages for multiple

How is WPF a generation ahead of what OS X has? I haven't used WPF since 3.5 came out, but it didn't seem to offer anything better than what Cocoa offers. I think it's much better than Qt, but Qt has to make sacrifices to be cross platfo

One of the commenters on the article points out that we already produce enough food to feed more than nine billion people, so the reason people go hungry isn't because there isn't enough food it's because the food isn't in the right places.
