I remember drooling over this card and half-life 2, while all I had was a voodoo 3. It took me so long to upgrade my computer that by the time I did this series of cards was already two or more generations too old, and in the end I opted fo

I'm willing to bet its more about the "Fedora" than the "Cinnamon". I was an Arch user for about 15 years with a few attempts in between to try other distros (including Fedora), but recently I've been installin

I wonder how much influence google had in lowering the content quality over the years? After all, most SEO spam was a direct response to all the ludicrous requirements they've forced the whole web into, which eventually only SEO spam

Isn't Apple very restrictive about apps that allow running arbitrary code like emulators? I'm also a bit perplexed, unless they have changed their policy recently.

I'm surprised the 3DS hasn't been hacked trough this functionality. It would be an awesome opportunity to create some kind of worm that quickly spreads around the world and you also get to name it with a trendy name like "Fai

I used to religiously read the Wine release entries, looking for fixes and improvements. For me it was an indispensable tool in making Linux more usable. However nowadays (specially in the last 3 years or so) Linux has matured so much that

Firefox has hardware video decoding enabled by default on linux for years now, only google chrome doesn't want to bother doing the work to enable it. That said, in some cases hardware video decoding may be unavailable due to IP issues

I think you have missed the point, it's more about decentralization and increasing "locality" of the internet, get people close to each other or with shared interest to have their own communities. Webrings may not be all that

I think it's pretty clear that "PC-like" also means you need an open platform, with the possibility to install any software and operating system you wish, which the xbox nor any console from the major brands allows for.

Unlike mp3s compared to other audio codecs, h264 has the luxury of pretty much ubiquitous support for hardware decoders and encoders against other video codecs, so I believe it will have an even longer life than mp3.

There are many reasons why youtube reigns supreme but I wonder if newer, extremely efficient video codecs designed with AI inference (as shown in some demos for the last 2 years) would help in breaking up youtube's moat. It's ver
