I miss games using tracked music, its a really unique sound.

I've often wondered why audio in games never seemed to get back to this kind of realism. Its shocking how primitive most game engines are with audio processing. You get linear/inverse square falloff on volume over distance and per

Because you can actually fit 4 of them without impinging airflow from the heatsink. Mini HDMI is mechanically ass and I've never seen it anywhere but junky Android tablets. DP also isn't proprietary.

If you're getting to the point where you have to open a terminal, elevate to root and edit your hosts file, that's beyond a bored impulse. You know exactly what you're doing and you can stop yourself. That tiny bit of frictio

If the current UI libraries are enough, then why are people diving for Electron slop instead of using them? Seems like there's room for improvement here if nobody wants to touch any of them.

I prefer not having to worry about it at all, and I don't. Its tidy by default and stays tidy no matter what I install. Many other "deficiencies" in Gnome, like the lack of desktop filing, or the austere file manager contribu

I am personally so glad Gnome does not have a system tray, on every other DE its a disgusting mess of differently scaled and styled icons.

What is the point of app stores holding up releases for review if they don't even catch obvious malware like this?

There is such a thing as institutional knowledge, you build it up by retaining staff properly, training replacements and handing this knowledge down, you need continuity. Another important part of this is doing a thing often. For example, i

Its a parasitic tap that connects to the mains power cable going into the device. It then phase locks an inverter with said mains power, allowing the mains power cable to be unplugged and the whole lot transported elsewhere on battery power

You do, most SSD controllers already implement this. Have you ever wondered why most SSD's come in slightly odd sizes like 100GB instead of 128GB? The extra space is put aside and used for wear levelling and other maintenance tasks. Yo

A friend of mine has a few Dell Kace M300's which they run Linux on. Would that kind of thing be what you're looking for? It was originally an asset management appliance for businesses. https://sudos.wordpress.com/

That's where the wear levelling comes in, still expose 8GB of space to the host device, but internally have I dunno, twice that in cell capacity that you can move bits to as other cells wear out. Its a shame mobile devices don't h

Surely it can't cost much more to go for a larger eMMC chip and have it massively over-provisioned with plenty of space for wear levelling? The underlying flash memory is trash and the controller already does a ton of heavy lifting to

I was in the same boat with an overclocked 3570K. I only just replaced it last year and grabbed a 5800X3D. I hope this thing lasts me a decade too.

I'm also very happy with my 5800X3D, it was wonderful value back when AM5 had just released and DDR5/Motherboards still cost an arm and a leg. The energy efficiency is much appreciated in the UK with our absurd price of electricit

When these ARM boards start coming with UEFI and I don't need to hunt around for blessed OS images with patched kernels I'll be a lot more interested, until then I've got to stick with x86 to maintain my sanity.

I always wished that a lot of home automation stuff would use powerline networking. Especially things like the relays I have on my lamps. I guess an ESP8266 costs way less than all the chunky passives required to do powerline comms though.

I imagine just including the code in index.php before the bootstrapping process actually loads up Wordpress for real. That way you could just halt the script early after noticing a funny request.
