This is why I don't believe in computer science degrees. What you learned 5 years ago may not be relevant today. If the things one learns in a CS program are irrelevant 5 years later, that's a pretty crappy CS program. I don't worry about

I've wondered how difficult the hiring needs to be before companies will consider hiring good engineers to work remotely. So much of the dev work I've done over the years could have been coordinated/overseen from the other side of the worl

Despite what I said up above, I have to admit it sometimes has that effect on me as well--although in almost all those cases FizzBuzz is followed up with more questions that aren't much more difficult.

I've started flatly turning down offers from one large company in particular because of this. It didn't help that they only wanted to conduct their two or more 1+ hour phone screens during banker's hours.

I don't mind being asked "Hello World" or fizz-buzz, so long as things ramp up quickly from there. If I'm interviewing for a senior position, and the interviewer insists on slogging through a bunch of trivia questions about algorithms and d

Every time I've gone for an interview after seeing "rockstar" in the job description, it's gone poorly, and usually because I saw enough in 5 minutes (or less) to know I didn't want to work there. Half the time the recruiter is so excited a

I suppose it depends on the libraries and what you want to do with them. I personally find the Python REPL in combination with matplotlib, NumPy and SciPy to be extremely handy for poking around in small/medium-sized data sets and debuggin
