Well, you did learn to understand German sentences way before school and grammar, I think that was the point. A baby can learn any language without studying its grammar, and in the early period not being able to pronounce the words.

That sounds very interesting, could you elaborate or provide some links? Aren't there successful 'alternative' school programs?

Simulation and modelling are great tools in engineering, but it is still very difficult to create realistic models that predict behavior of the real thing well. There are always things you leave out, and sometimes they come back to bite you

Friston has a paper on free energy and psychedelics? Huh. Funny guy. Thanks for the link to hakomi therapy. The technique seems powerful and I see similar elements in different schools of therapy: If you’re in mindfulness and I say, “Dogs

For me, one important feature of notation is its consistency. Eg a inverse of sin function should not be written the same as powers, in superscript. Some programming languages enforce (function-name argument1 ... argumentn), or similar stru

I've enjoyed "The Analogue Alternative: The Electronic Analogue Computer in Britain and USA, 1930-1970", By James S. Small. Really got me thinking about the possibility of forgotten ideas from that space.

The price you paid says you value the thing you got more than the money you gave in exchange. At the same time, the person who received the money values it more than the thing he sold. That is what makes economic transactions positive sum g

Agreed. Have you seen any models or simulations of economies with subjective value? All I see are some 'objective' measures.

Transactions are pos sum only if you look at subjective value, right?

Yet, when it comes to decades, we seem to be using the zero based count, perhaps with some confusion. The naughts, teens, twenties, etc.

I was going trough wikipedia after your comment, browsing different visual programming languages and paradigms. I suppose you're right that they don't scale in the same way as textual languages. Maybe someone finds a good set of c

True. Simulations are always a simplification of reality and leave a lot out of the picture. On the flip side, successful robotics concepts might have more chance of being relevant to AGI.

To me, the strange thing about this concept is the emphasis on textual code. There is still a screen and a keyboard, they are just projected or on paper. I think I would enjoy more something like a cable-patch interface. I would draw an int

Downloaded the Calculus in Context when I read the your comment. That is exactly the kind of approach to math I appreciate and understand. I've been reading it and enjoying making simulations during the weekend. Thanks!

Nice read! I keep wanting to learn more about the hardware to build something myself. Only simulations so far. Analog computers are absolutely fascinating. I feel like there is a lot of lost lore in that field.

Nit pick - The "original control systems math" is Bode, Black, Nyquist.. 1930's. Cybernetics is the application of control theory (branch of mathematics) to biology; Norbert Wiener, Ashby, etc, 1950's.

Serbo-croatian might go to that list as well, as it was an official language in the former Yugoslavia. French too. Spanish (Castillan). Seems like interslavic might have a chance only in a hypothetical panslavic country.

Waiting for Teensy 4.0 (currently in beta testing[1]). Probably will make an amazing lisp machine. 600Mhz CPU, usb, all Arduino compatible. [1] https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/54711-Teensy-4-0-First-Beta-T...

I've found Atom's Hydrogen[1] to be pretty neat for my purposes, currently data analysis and plotting with python. Separate code into cells with #%%, crtl+enter to run. No need to reload data from files. [1] https://atom
