Sure, but the OP is not talking about backup, they’re talking about primary storage.

Yes, I said this. Wildcard certs, as I mention, largely avoid the issue because it’s just one cert for a higher-level domain and largely uninteresting from an information disclosure perspective, at least compared with individual domain cert

You don’t need to if you use ACME DNS challenge. I have split horizon where the ACME creates the temporary challenge record, LetsEncrypt sees it, and then the record is removed. There is never a public A record, and the window for enumerati

If absolute values are a concern then why not replace the unit with % change? One could, assuming linear scale, reverse engineer that onto this plot anyway. Some plots, of course, might stand better on their own without a y-axis scale (hist

Huh? The data here isn’t for one day, it’s for three days. Further, population differences will massively inflate absolute numbers. You’re making it seem like US is ~1,600x UK when in fact per capita it’s ~61x [1]. Yes, this is still a lot

Is the censorship applied globally or just to their resolvers in or near Germany? Unfortunately the domain names are redacted so it’s not straightforward to test this.

But it doesn’t really use more memory. The ARC gives the impression of high memory usage because it’s different than the OS page cache and usually called out explicitly and not ignored in many monitoring tools like the OS cache is. Linux—wi

What sort of images are you working with? I can fairly straightforwardly boot debian:stable with no modifications to the image using direct kernel boot. Is everything perfect? No, but it does boot.

VMs provide stronger guarantees for maximum CPU, network, and disk usage, as well as memory size consumption. This because the abstraction boundaries are fairly clear (e.g. threads and virtual devices).

Sometimes. Other times they may make things worse by lying to the filesystem (and thereby also the application) about writes being completed, which may confound higher-level consistency models.

The article’s author only said RAID was useless in a specific scenario, not generally, and the post you’re replying to omitted this crucial context.

by amarshall 5y ago
Don’t lop HBAs and RAID controllers together. The former is just PCIe to SATA or SCSI or whatever (otherwise it is not just an HBA, but indeed a RAID controller). Such a thing is still useful and perhaps necessary for software RAID if there

Since 1Password for Linux appears to be backed by Electron, perhaps it’s a sign that other platforms’ native clients will be replaced by an Electron-based client to get these new features.
