I feel like this is only technically ASCII rendering. As far as I can tell, it's always the same chars that are rendered, and only colouring tags change. That seems to optimise for usability/complexity ratio, while completely thro

That was a great read! Thanks for linking it! Paul certainly has a way with words that I simply don't, and he expresses the same idea I had, only much more clearly. I wonder if being "engaged by identity" can be automatically

Maybe identity is the root of all evil? Hear me out: back in the day founding a company wasn't an identity, it was just an action, a verb. Stuff started going sideways when people started thinking of themselves as "founders".

"no" is reductive to the point of being misleading. Cosmic DE is built using iced which is a rust gui library. As far as native, single-platform guis go, I'd say rust is plenty mature. There's also Bevy, a rust game engi

Yes, but Claude code is hardly a "someone", so that's not what the comment I replied to was arguing at all.

Sure, but that's not what GP stated at all, unless possibly if they're anthropomorphizing to the point that they refer to Claude as "someone".

They do say "live a little", and it strikes me now that perhaps I've completely misinterpreted that phrase. For some reason I've always thought it to be a call to live a lot, or at least more . But now I see that my int

This creates some very uncomfortable cultural clashes sometimes. I remember way back when I was signed up for a service provided by Ms. They did not, as far as I could tell, provide a way to cancel the service, other than to stop paying. Si

Weeeelll, I'm definitely getting into dubious nitpick territory, but I'm not sure we can draw the conclusion that the JVM has negative overhead just because Java happens to be slower without it. That's mostly because Java was

I do agree that as far as VM's go, the JVM is not bad. I guess my recent fascination with rust is kinda shining through here, but I've begun questioning the need for any sort of VM: even the best ones add overhead, and since in pr

Not to argue myself out of a job, but I cost around $20k/month, all costs considered(taxes, social fees, PTO, healthcare, benefits). If my efficiency is tripled(which it absolutely is, even before fable) for a mere 6k/month(in rea

This... Confuses me profoundly. My entire career I've worked with Java, and it's mostly a pretty decent language, imo. I think my biggest gripe with Java is the JVM. It's limiting, doesn't really provide any value(the pr

The iPhone analogy is very apt and accurate: it's ~95% advertising and ~5% useful signal. Which for my repositories means I want ~95% less of it in my commit history. I'm prepared to round up for simplicity. But to each their own.
