I wonder how much money companies waste by keeping their server rooms as cold as a refrigerator. Some IT guy who thinks servers should be cold probably told them that.

I agree with this. Because of the brain's ability to access things which are not exactly constrained to it's physicality, I think the brain acts as a type of radio and tunes into memories. Not exactly sure how they are stored.

Is the author going to set a minimum price on the sliding scale or fix a price? I think the business model is very interesting. I first saw "free" book and thought I would download. Then I saw the sliding scale and then it kicks in to sp

I don't remember how I found it, but this it's a killer feature to use S3 to host git repos for archival. I now have 3 copies, it's overkill, but Heroku, bitbucket & S3. Unfuddle also has free private git repos.

Wow, again, why not just use jgit & your own S3 account and push to S3. If they are just compressing your git repo, why not just upload yourself?

Why bother with dropox? Install jgit and push it on your S3 account for $0.01 per month. Or use Bitbucket's free private git repos.

This is a very smart acquisition. From what I saw SeaMicro has a great innovation in the form of their 'virtualize IO.' It is a great idea to share IO of machines in a cluster. They can make big headway by integrating tuned CPU's into th

This has turned into a debate on coffeescript. Would love to get more explanation from a Rails developer point of view about how the integrated javascript client/server model works.

This is very cool. We are working on a website for a complex workflow. This could take all of the business logic out of the web application (done via rails state plugins) and move it to the amazon service. Then just make semi-dumb forms

This is just one agency but I think they are thinking twice about spending 10m on a product and getting locked in because it was sold as the be-all end-all. Big vendors like Palantir, and the database vendors mentioned will pay attention.

The Rails 3 rewrite / MERB integration was supposed to accomplish this by allowing pluggable ORM's and different libraries. Is Padrino trying to be the new MERB? I think extending Rails to be more modular is the way to go, not more frame
