Though it is encouraging, the consultations were almost all invite-only, and not transparent to the public. There have certainly been a few public consultations, though they have generally been not well advertised.

On a semi-related note, the code for AIMA taught me a lot about Python, just from reading through it at trying to understand. http://code.google.com/p/aima-python/source/browse/#svn/trun...

I suppose people push the "year of the linux desktop" meme since it generates buzz. I personally use Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows all in the same day, and feel great doing it.

It would be really nice if somebody could write a breakdown of these webservers for the uninitiated like myself. I'd like to know when to use which tool.

Aw, sorry. I didn't realise it was satire. I think I need my satire to smack me in the face before I notice it.

One of the big selling features of the Android SDK, for me, was the ability to completely replace any aspect of the system including the dialer, contacts, music, etc.

I get that your title is sort of a joke (I hope), but if you just go by this article then it seems to me that it's suggesting that Emacs is more "usable" than vi! Emacs uses quasi-modes like crazy. Maybe I didn't understand.

The logo is sort of heterocentric (it looks like a male rabbit is mounting the female rabbit).

PLP is pretty good. We used it in my university course on compiler design, I quite enjoyed reading it.

YES! Thank you for this clarification. I personally enjoy thinking about the implementations, instead of looking at the code itself. Knuth makes that easy (hard?) by not spoon feeding you. Plus the typography of Knuth's books is so wonder

If there is one thing above all else that hackers love to do, it's self-reflect. The "Ask HN" threads are just extending this self-reflection to this special something we all love and enjoy (HN!).

This anecdote fills me with hope for what a determined person is capable of. Lately I've been stuck thinking credentials are supremely important. I'm happy that people can challenge this and become successful!

HN is always on about how the community is degrading, though apparently there has been some recent evidence to suggest that it is. That's what all the ballyhoo is about. There are always lots of articles about "Rate my startup!" and "Ask HN

I am enrolled in an internship program which happens to be one of the world's largest (in scope and size, perhaps not reputation). I won't go into the details, but the internships have certainly been the most valuable part of my education

You are quite correct; however, I think one interesting corollary to this research is the interface between brain and computer. Though we still require a method by which to translate brain function into Boolean-esque logic, at least when we
