"there are only a few days per year you get very cold temperatures coupled with nearly no wind at all" This is a terrible handwave. How many days per year, in the middle of winter, in a cold country, are you OK with having no powe

"If this blue indicator is on, you're blinding everyone" In many modern cars with auto-dipping headlights, this is not true (or at least not intended by the manufacturer to be true).

I don't directly ask it if the video is promotional, but you can usually get a sense from the way the summary is written.

Gas is already outlawed for new builds in Victoria, despite vast gas resources in the Bass Strait. Presumably that's the direction other states are heading too.

"In general, the people you spend time with are not selected by a process which is even close to random" That very much depends on where you are born & brought up, and how willing you are to leave all that behind.

It's very difficult for most (not all) people to relate to others who are either significantly more or significantly less intelligent than them. So, for example (using IQ as a proxy), most people of average intelligence (~100IQ) would

This has always struck me as dumb, as until recently it was far cheaper to use your existing (gas-fired) hot water than to use a resistive element. However, with gas going out of fashion (and already hugely expensive in the Eastern states),

I summarise YT videos with Gemini all the time. You can easily control the length and depth of the summary & get it to focus on particular things etc, before investing time in watching it, only to find out it's promotional, superfi

Is it worth using heat pumps in this setup (in addition to resistive elements)? I understand they can't reach the absolute temperature of resistive heating, but from an efficiency POV for the first few tens of degrees they are much mor

The number of people who cling to this view is frankly astonishing. History books are still a thing, right?

It doesn't matter - GP is now able to do things they were unable to do before. A distinction without a (real-world) difference.

Merchant fraud this time. Done through the (soon-to-be-ex) bank but they brought up the charge from Visa. It’s possible that my current bank is particularly bad at this, as they are bad at everything else. I have had the runaround with merc

Depending on which country you're in and which bank you're with, chargebacks are nothing like as straightforward as they used to be. I just completed yet another one, which involved 2 separate phone calls totalling over an hour (s

Just yesterday, asking it to make some design changes to my study. It did a great job with all the complex stuff, but asking it to move a shelf higher, it repeatedly gave me back the same image. With LLMs generally I find as soon as you enc

Because if you have read the other comments (not threads), and you are capable of reading comprehension, you will be aware that this adds compliance costs for everyone in the space, and is especially disastrous for any small operators that

A firmly-held but poorly-thought-out opinion? How unusual. Many of the other comments on this thread point out what the "hurt" is, and it is not trivial, neither is it particularly difficult to understand. Unless you choose not to

GLP-1 definitely doesn’t prevent you increasing your percentage of total calories from protein, and doing regular resistance exercise. That was the advice from my doctor, and while I’m only 2 months in, weekly scans have not yet shown any s

Well no, obviously not, but we do have 20 years of data, and aside from a still-tiny-but-slightly-elevated thyroid cancer risk, there’s really not much showing up in that data.

GLP-1 isn’t new - the first trials were 20 years ago & there’s a lot of long term data from its use in diabetes management, prior to the weight loss application.

I think B2 (small) B SaaS is also in trouble pretty much now. Enterprise is a different thing though, the barriers to entry are not just building and maintaining the software.
