This is a good point, YouTube on my smart TVs is logged into my account, my kids are forever mangling my search history with Roblox, Minecraft, squishies & other random things kids are into. I'm sure Google / YT has no idea wh

Where do people get the idea that they are either employees of or contractors to YouTube? Do Amazon affiliates and bloggers monetizing with AdSense have the same, false idea?

Paul Graham wrote an essay about this: http://www.paulgraham.com/identity.html Though he primarily talked about religion and politics (it's an old essay), I see people attaching other concepts to their identity, and th

How can you possibly extract racism from the parent post? Even if you're actively looking for it? Throwing that word around like confetti makes it less useful where it is deserved.

Audi sell EVs as well as ICEs. You said you’d bought an Audi after considering a Tesla. As I said, poorly-executed virtue signal.

Tell the OP to buy an Opel instead of an Audi then.

No I don't, that's not what I'm suggesting. People who may have bought Teslas in the past at least partly for virtue-signalling are now buying cars built by other manufacturers as a virtue signal against Musk, now they have

VW was founded by the Nazis, and the SS ran labor camps where prisoners were forced to work for Auto Union. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in Audi's wiki, they did make an announcement about it several years ago. I find

"Didn't buy a Tesla" = sends a message to Tesla "Didn't buy a Tesla, bought an Audi" = poorly-executed virtue signal attempt.

Who is punishing VW? I drive one (my 3rd) & it's a great car. I'm not using it to signal my virtue though, and I am suggesting it's a poor choice for that purpose.

When is the official cutoff, for a company founded by the Nazi party to be used as the positive side of a virtue-signaling comparison? Obviously less than 80 years?

Audi or VW are poor choices if virtue signaling is the aim. Almost any other Western car company would have been better.

You’re absolutely correct, the largest bureaucracy in Europe definitely doesn’t waste any money. What ratio would be less fucking weird?

Of course it’s hard. My point is that the current version of the algorithm gives undue weight to factors other than what the user wants.

Surely one of the purposes of a search engine is to assist the journey from generic to specific. I don’t see how filling page 1 for generic queries with non-specific DR90+ behemoths helps.

More constructive commentary /sarc And I’m far from a conservative. I just think socialism is more stupid & damaging in the real world (as opposed to in theory) than any of the realistic alternatives, but that doesn’t make me a sup

That’s a naive understanding of 2 topics in 1 post. Structural high labour costs can’t be negated by a CO2 tax - how could they? The Gillard / Ken Henry CO2 tax proposals would have had a devastating impact on employment in both mining

“Australia should stop exporting raw materials and do the refining closer to the mines.” High cost of energy / high cost of labour / history of problematic industrial relations all conspire against this worthy goal.

Your snark is inaccurate. FFI (one of the major players discussed here) is not part of the fossil fuel industry, and it’s chairman castigates the fossil fuel industry publicly and repeatedly.

Anybody who generates wealth via business ownership is different from most of us - business risk should have at least a chance of reward, otherwise why take the risk? Of course rent-seeking, regulation-gaming & parasitical industries
