I've thus-far enjoyed ME3, but haven't yet completed it, in part because of the time spent on multi-player (and I suspect most of the reviewers hadn't completed it by the time their reviews went live, so that defense is less compelling). My

After about 10 seconds of not finding anything (even with a horizontal scroll), I gave up ... and didn't learn there was more below the fold until I (re)checked the comments here.

Following back the chain of links o the original newspaper story [1], there appear to be three books involved. Only "Ender's Game" is named. Based on the account in the complaint, one of the phrases in question certainly does not come from

Odd. This was perhaps one of the earliest Sci-Fi books I read (along with many of the Doctor Who books.) I'm fairly certain I first read it in middle school, which would have made me about 10, but may have been as late as the start of high

Hey! What's with all the down-voting in this thread? I understood HN was a place where down-voting was reserved for trolls, not disagreement ... and "good" down voters explain reasons not immediately obvious.

Is there an OS-type license that includes a NC clause? (Yes, I understand that true OS licenses can't have that restriction by definition, but I hope the intent of my question is clear.)

I agree ... mostly. One of the examples was bytes downloaded. The reason I, and I suspect other users, interpret that as % downloaded is that in most interfaces (e.g., iTunes, Firefox, Safari), below the download progress bar, it says "XK o

No, I don't think it's unusual. I've watched a former colleague (now the state superintendent of schools) successfully identify not only pepsi from coke, but coke, diet coke (which he drinks regularly), and caffine-free diet coke from each

After thinking about it for a moment, my response is this: if the same idea can be delivered in fewer (words|paragraphs), then show the reduced form. Tighter writing is clearer, and thus easier to read. If you can trim, you should be doing

Prior art doesn't prohibit someone from patenting the idea ... I rather suspect not too many patent examiners peek inside source code or the interfaces of indie apps to check for prior art, and if a behemoth company is going to patent someo

A typo. But in retrospect, an amusing one. (Star Wars: Force Unleashed. I'm not a hard-core gamer, so I found the hardest level to be a quite difficult at times until upgrades could be had.)

The 'ji' (じ) uses the same kana as 'shi' (し), just with some tick marks. Which sound is used in a compound word depends on the previous syllable. So, by itself, yes, it's "shima", but in a compound it could be either.
