I'm pretty sure many of the Windows laptops with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite chip have the same or better battery life and comparable performance in a similar form factor. There are many videos online of comparisons.

Isn't that the case for half of modern browsers APIs? Google develops whatever it needs for its own products into Chrome and then pushes it to W3C. Other browsers perpetually behind. They've gotten quite good at this strategy.

That's quite the list of languages. If you're interested in types I would suggest also looking into F#. Shouldn't be tricky for someone who has already experienced C# and is open to different approaches to programming. For me

You're not alone. The only reason I struggle to onboard to Zed is the design. They're doing an incredible job with the editor, but I have never seen a more bland design in any IDE. It's genuinely so bad that it affects my pro

I recall that he egged on the AI to admit what it did. So I don't think that can be considered as AI taking responsibility. It's just being a sycophant as usual.

I don't think people are claiming he was not experimenting as much as they are claiming he was overtly optimistic about the outcome. It seemed like he went in with the notion that AIs are somehow thinking machines. I don't think t

Teams came from Skype. Skype Lync was just a client (so far as I know). Don't take my word for it though, I was not there during the transition, this is just my understanding from talking to the ones that were.

Teams was built from Skype. The fundamental infra for communication (chat, video call) was pulled out of Skype as a separate component and integrated into both. Skype the client is completely sunset, but a part of its back-end will continue

I thought in this story the operator did let the person in, which if so was a grave mistake that they now have to carry with them. Though I wonder how you think an operator would know if people have metal on them? Definitely not by trusting

I think the argument is that growing up with something doesn't necessarily make you good at it. I think it rings especially true with higher level abstractions. The upcoming generation is bad with tech because tech has become more abst

I've never seen someone put having a high number of junior engineers in a positive light. Maybe with LLMs it's different? I've worked at companies where you would have one senior manage 3-5 juniors and the code was completely

Do strength training, as in compound leg exercises once or twice a week. Squats, forward lunges, (and many more you can find online for knee strength). The healthiest approach to running is not just running, especially if you're over 3

Raking in 100s of millions and not improving Firefox is one thing. Another is spending those millions on acquiring companies that produce no revenue, aka setting money on fire. Zen Browser has been producing the features people have been as

I wonder how a single handed savings of 10 mil might get rewarded in a company. Was there at least a pizza party? Where I work there probably wouldn't even be a promotion on the line, not in the same year at least.

I'll try a counterargument. If more code is more technical debt then writing more succinct code is less technical debt. But succinct code is often harder to grok and maintain than code written for the average Joe dev. So less code can

Overflow/underflow does happen in C# though. You have to manually opt-out by using a `checked` block anywhere you do arithmetic.

Not sure if types are supposed to protect against overflow/underflow, it's more in the arithmetic territory. Interesting idea though, I wonder if some programming language allows overflow/underflow checks directly in the type
