Windows Live Photo Gallery is way more of an improvement than I was expecting. I'm pleasantly surprised. I really wish Windows Live Mesh did incremental syncing but now that I'm syncing my OneNote notebooks to Office Live I'm less concerne

Actually OSX's market share peaked with the debut of Win7 and has been declining since. Your point stands, though.

I don't get this commonly made argument. I'm either paying rent or a mortgage. It seems to rely on an assumed rich renter, who has enough money to rent an apartment AND invest money on top of it.

What an interesting lens you see the world through. Was it desperate and tacky when Apple gave all their employees free iPhones, or was that a magical maneuver by Steve Jobs? Maybe the world is somewhere in between. Maybe it's a good thin

I don't know anyone on my 115 person team who isn't at least excited to give it a shot and see if it's better, including the more ardent iPhone fans among us, of which I count myself as one.

Yeah really. Has he contacted the EFF or other similar organizations? What's with all this defense of anti-semetism? Someone needs to proofread this. What's the call to action? If the domain name's not going to change, fine, but get rid

That's my favorite aspect of Windows Home Server's backup. It does it once a day whenever you're asleep. It'll even wake up your machine, back it up, and them put it back to sleep. And it's smart enough to only do this if you're laptop i

Does anyone know where to get good pizza in Boston or Cambridge? An absolute prerequisite before answering this question is that you must agree almost all pizza in NYC is delicious and almost all pizza in Boston is the most inedible, greas

Are you straight? If so, has said relationship been successful for a while? I think Gene Roddenbury is the only non-fictional male I've heard of who has been in a successful polyamorous relationship with women. When you're gay, things are

Yes, non-monogamy is similar in this regard to most other interesting and desirable things: it's neither easy nor simple.

My WHS has 4 HDs and its transfer speed is still network bound (100 Mbps). Much faster than the Drobo it replaced. My biggest gripes with the drobo were loudness (no really, it sounds like a jet engine), inability to recover data directly

They aren't IPS, but i saw one at Best Buy and it is really good. It's up there with the MacBook Air on color and viewing angles. Definitely the two best displays I've seen on a laptop in a really long time.

Watching an hour long video in a browser sucks. If you accidentally navigate away from the page, you lose your place and buffer. Downloading it is sane. Also, downloading a movie shouldn't require a security prompt. So yeah, was what he d

I actually don't think there's a particularly strong anti-MS bias on HN. There's just a lot of uninformed commentary by people who haven't even heard of more than half of MS's businesses. I don't think that's the case with any other comp

It's never ceases to shock me how bad the Microsoft commentary is on HN, not because I don't agree with the conclusions, but rather because it mostly operates on so little information. For example: > Microsoft has a wonderfully lucrativ

This is insanity. You could use a debugger solely to add trace output to a program without recompiling if that really were a better way of reasoning about. No one that has learned a debugger well would ever say this...
