Came here to post this, their ID system sounded like the greatest thing ever until... It's a monoculture, and therefore extra brittle and subject to attacks. If a country is gonna go all in on a single solution, it had better be a trie

I'm sorry, you think not wanting to hit a large number of extra keys to go different app => desired window, or to have to navigate a chaotic mission control view with a mouse is just a "not exactly the same as windows" com

I don't see how this makes sense -- if someone wants to launder money, why would they need to find a donation link to their external donation system inside an android app? I'm pretty sure they just want their cut.

Apple's cut is a hell of a lot more than 2.9% + $0.30.

I use Witch by ManyTricks for this. I refused to get a mac until someone told me about it — I find switching to a program first and then to the correct window totally insane. Witch is very configurable and pretty performant — once in a whil

Scarcity: because SF is a tiny peninsula where housing growth requires vertical growth, and housing (and associated cost rises) are at the root of so much of this. Also some of the other reasons people said, but probably mostly that. I don&

This opinion piece provides no context to bits like "The “unsheltered” count continues to rise—up 17%, to 8,011, in 2019 from 2017—and San Francisco continues to wonder why." Or the 17 needle deposits that apparently teach all the

This is a fantastic point that may not be relevant now, but may be extraordinarily relevant in the future. I’m not aware of any work or even sci-fi that addresses AGI with regards to this question, and would be curious if there’s stuff out

They didn't block requests to 8chan, they simply won't provide services to the site. If you're using cloudflare for DNS lookups, 8chan resolves just like any other non-cloudflare customer.

it's actually vastly more efficient and centralized; goods are transported to all stores like that, but in cities like NYC there's no last mile GHG emission.

No, it's a crazy metric. We consume vastly more healthcare, for example. Is that wealth? This article is insane, and the site has an extraordinarily clear (and manifest) right-wing bias.

For example, if anyone is curious, check their "facts" on energy: https://www.justfacts.com/energy.asp There's a giant section on the benefits of fracking, but the environmental impact section is limited to &

Can someone check me on this? It seems that by equating spending/consumption with wealth, the things that cost us more (healthcare, transport, telecoms, etc) than other nations are being counted as wealth when really they're just

I think this is very simple: if the person has cleaned up their act (Epstein was dismissive of issues with his behaviors) and your judgement isn't clouded by dollars (Ito's / MITs were). If those things aren't both true,

This is insane -- paying a $7.25/hr minimum wage to people you call "teammates" and expecting them to stick around is preposterous. In anything but a terrible economic downturn, minimum wage says to employees that you just wa
