It's probably because of the syntax highlighting, which is fairly slow due to regex. Sublime should have no problems reading it in text mode. more would also work!

Yup, Penney's game is surprising because at first glance the probabilities of two sequences of the same length are unrelated. But if more than half of the sequences overlap, then one sequence will tend to arrive before the other. As th

Good points. Pedantic aside: scale-free is a dangerous assumption for two reasons. First, there may be fairly large deviations from power law in real data, and any such deviation renders the problem intractable. Second, botnets can modify l

I agree that the calendar shouldn't make questionable assumptions. However, Scott's complaint is that he often forgets to set the timezone, resulting in significant harm. I think that it's a fair complaint--after all, the ent

Instant gratification exacerbates the network effect, but it's not the root problem. A decentralized social network could provide the same upvotes and be just as addictive. I think the root problem is economic. There's no profit t

What do you find stupid? The way I see it, HTML/JS is a pretty good higher-level GUI language, and much effort has been spent making it work well. The overhead is worth it if it makes developers more productive.
