It’s incredibly frustrating. I find myself paging down as soon as I see a thread turning into memes and jokes, or collapsing whole threads. It made me start to think it would be great if there was a “serious replies only” filter to omit all

I've encountered this so many times myself, and I still get burned on it, but mostly because sometimes the work you're doing is so technically interesting that the "reward" is the work itself. Then, when you finish, you

This is great! Thanks for making it. I turned on everything and for a second it felt like I was in the middle of a crazy on-call session.

Good examples. These feel like "noble lies". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noble_lie It's a delicate act to pull off, obviously, since you absolutely have to be right, and must assume that the other part

I may have to try out Tomoe some time. I used Moleskine long ago but eventually moved away to Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks. I find their paper works really well for my fountain pen usage. I even write on both sides of each page, something I av

I've been using LastPass for several years now as a paying customer and I really like it. However, I wish they would focus on their usability a bit more. The UI is a little more complicated than it needs to be and some common actions t

I have noticed that sense of "domination" come out in interviews as well. I remember long ago having one interview where the interviewer was asking me to code something which I knew would be impossible to complete in the time allo

It’s funny that unedited, poorly rehearsed “presenting style” has in a way taken on a life of its own. Speaking to a director off-camera, quick jump cuts of multiple takes, drawing attention to flubbing of lines, are all sort of techniques

I’m old too (43) and I enjoy short videos that get to the point as well. If a video is too long or takes too long I’ll just skip ahead and until I hear them talking about specifics. There was a point a few years ago where there was this sud

This aesthetic brings back memories. I remember it was a look about 10 years ago with blogs like Hipster Runoff using it.

I really like the five whys to get to the truth of what went wrong, but unfortunately, in practice you only take the whys so far. For instance, where I work, if we have a large enough on-call issue, we have an RCA to figure out what went wr

Wow, the slowness of Desqview BBSes is something I haven't thought about for 30 years, but yes, you are right. I remember calling into a Roboboard-based BBS that switched to Desqview and seeing the characters type out so slowly on my s

This is such a funny product. The original chatter telephone toy is one of my mom's favorite toys when she was a kid. She always brings it up and eventually found one at a garage sale to buy for herself. This would make for a funny Chr

It’s hard to tell exactly how the horizontal note taking and linking work, but it does remind me a bit of Gingko [1] which works as a nested outline style note taker. I think having nested lists is a “natural” way to organize your thoughts.

Very cool idea! I love the idea of a "pony express" kind of daily pickup. It's very easy to grok the idea. In some ways, it reminds me of back in the day with BBSes and FidoNet long-distance mail distribution happening early

I’m with you. I bought the HHKB and thought I’d love it but I didn’t. I also found the keys too “heavy” but I did buy the quieter model, so it never felt loud to me. I have gone back to an old cherry brown switch keyboard and have preferred

I’m considering canceling my Netflix as well. There’s a ton of stuff but I find most of it unappealing. Much of the stuff I had previously put in my watch list has over time disappeared from their catalog. I think on average I find about on

That only really solves the problem of authenticity if all speeches are “NFTed”. If you see a video of a politician making offensive remarks outside of a speech setting, you can’t say it didn’t happen just because it wasn’t in NFT format.

I have the 2020 Intel one as well. I think the key travel still isn't what it was in 2015 or earlier, though. They are still too shallow for me. It's minor, but I do feel I bottom out too quickly on them. It feels like tapping on

Similar to (1), I somewhat have a process for async discussions. Sometimes, when I know starting a Slack thread will lead to lots of discussion, I wait until I have mental space to be ready to switch to them. Once those conversations start,
