Very interesting. They have other tools which are rather useful looking as well: http://pybee.org/ (debugger, test runner, coverage visualiser etc)

They had something very similar to that moored on the Thames estuary near London (UK) and it was about £400,000. Less than a decent house around here! I genuine considered it for a bit but the wife wasn't impressed when I told her the

It does but have you tried it in an aggregated store from 30 machines? It took 46 minutes to extract a single named (last 8 digits of a guid) error ID as it has to scan the entire log. Syslog on a Linux box and some front end indexing using

Yep can understand that. Its important to visualise values and comparing to reference points is fine. This comes to mind for unit conversions: http://www.weirdconverter.com

UK calling here. My Fiat doesn't have mph on the speedo as it was replaced (like most things ln the car it broke). I've been doing conversions for years from miles to km, gallons to litres etc. It's annoying but kmh is easy.

Isn't this akin to the reddit meme of showing everything next to a banana "for scale" comparing body parts? I.e. non-deterministic and from a scientific perspective, total horse shit.

I do everything to keep stuff out of the Windows event log because it's slow, impossible to query large swathes of data, noisy and difficult to get things to talk to it due to NT permissions and sources being stateful. Not only that yo

To be honest I held out on smartphones until 2012. The Nokia kit coming out before that was excellent . It's pretty good now as well but I find my cheap Moto G more useful.

What about this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.... AFAIK Android did ship with something like that recently but they killed it, not that I saw it personally. I reckon they killed it d

Most people aren't interested in the mechanism of anything, just the results. They don't make the concious decision not through education but through apathy and the desire to get from A to B via the shortest path. As for Google; b

Because its a shit ton of metadata and it only makes sense to compare permissions when they know what version you already have which the device is better at doing.

Richard Stallman has said a lot of things but as per any extremist you need to take all opinions in context to reality. I used to agree with him but the thousands of hours of arguing with free software make me disinterested in the propositi

I am prompted to review the permissions when I install an app and when it is upgraded if anything changes. I don't expect it to show me in tje store itself as I understand that it is defined by a manifest in the APK.

I'm not talking about tablets. Tablets are a passing fad. They don't work well for productivity. They work reasonably well for phones and that is about it. Enterprise is going to be Chromebook like devices.

They do the same in the UK but you can quite happily run anonymous accounts and be knee deep in anarchy and they wouldn't know.

Definitely. I use one of those USB sticks in my car radio so it doesn't stick out. It is tiny. I was searched going in and out but you could easily stick one up your bum like a drug mule!

They do indeed use hot glue and bolt the computers into cages. Then they buy monitors with built in USB hubs for keyboard and mouse and plug them in. To circumvent, remove mouse inert USB stick. No kidding. This was a tier 1 defense company

I've had security clearance (DV in UK) and a rapist axe murderer could get it. They have virtually no info on anyone and pretty just base it on your likelihood of compliance. Its easy to game.

I do the same actually. Can't beat a pencil and cheap HP AIO printer/scanner. I tend to annotate errors in books more than anything - it seems recently that publishers have lost the ability to review books...

This is always the biggest concern. The smaller firms use 3G based connections anyway as they're mostly on the road. The mid size guys have ADSL and 3G back up. The big guys use leased lines with SLAs. We have 3 fully redundant data ce
