Went through similar feelings a few years ago. Ended up going old school with C++ and wxWidgets as UI library. Felt to me like the best balance between - wanting a single code base that I could compile for Mac/Win/Linux - startup

The odd thing to me was not missing autocomplete, it was that it says "start typing to search", but when you type, nothing happens. This is of course because the search field is not focused when you load the page, until you click

HTTPS only protects the payload. The IP addresses of src/dst are still unencrypted. And DNS is also unencrypted (though if "dns over https" catches on, that might change in the future).

TLS uses certificate authorities and a public key infrastructure to ensure the authenticity of a peer. Is authenticity also something PSP provides, or is it focused on confidentiality and integrity?

The Windows 2000 demo reminded me of just how clean, fast and consistent Windows was in that era. Compared to today.

Desktop app dev feels like a dying art, unfortunately. I see many comments mention Qt, but just wanted to give a shout-out to wxWidgets too. I chose it on a recent project over Qt for resulting in a more lean statically linkable self contai

Nice. Another notable mention in this space is Talon. Useful for automating all OS tasks with voice commands, as well as just dictation: https://talonvoice.com/

How about just a short cable to a box on the desk in front of you? The weight and heat of strapping it all on your head sounds tiring...

Love how this just drops you straight into a workspace where you can start experimenting - no sign up required! And the live view of requests is really neat too.

Brave say they have their own index actually, but also sometimes use other providers (maybe for when their own index didn't return enough results?). https://brave.com/brave-search-beta/

Strange and fascinating that AZERTY has a dedicated ² key. Searched a bit but couldn't find any discussion on why. Any theories?

I built this SSH file manager a while back that I've been using daily. Hoping others will find it useful too! - Allows you to edit files like they were local. - Automatically download and open files in any local editor (configurable).
