It’s obviously more likely to find a C# codebase riddled with obsolete OO patterns than a Rust one. But I think the strongest signal for that would rather be e.g the code being related to web/service backends of some kind. I much more

The correct amount of OO in any language is ”as little as possible”. It’s quite possible to do this well in C#. There are levels of OO to not just on or off. E.g there is a difference between order.Process() and OrderProcessor.Process(order

Yeah static types as containers for functions just means the hierarchy becomes easier. In A.B.C.D() you know A.B is a namespace, C is a type and D() is a static method. With free functions you’d be unsure if this is a free method in the A.B

Same. I think it’s because it’s easy to read and write, and its worst design warts are at least not ridiculous like they are in say JS or Go, where there are massive cons to weigh against the pros. C# just feels like it’s pretty decent acro

These were the first lines of Go I ever wrote 15 minutes ago, as a response to the claim that Go had working enums. This is the kind of thing that makes me itch. https://go.dev/play/p/MMPMh7_U81- I think "be

Do NOT grow a business based on some single closed single ecosystem. That's especially true for Facebook (Do NOT host your company "webpage" on Facebook only, for example) and LinkedIn. The final nail in the coffin for Linked

Yeah same thing. Such a company is just 100 different 100 people companies. Plus a lot of big enterprise bs. Working at a 100 ppl company that has 105 people next year, that sounds great. Or even a 1000 people company that has 1000 or 1050

Can't think of anything I'd like less than working at a company that has 100 employees after 1 year and then 200 the next year. Talk about mostly being occupied with moving desks, onboarding people and having growth other such gro

Yeah. But again, it basically means you have no handover of anything, and in many (most?) places around the world you are still required to pay employees for a long period after notice. So you have an opportunity for handover that you are p

There are tons of use cases. E.g. if you know an algorithm (take any pseudocode description from a moderately complex algorithm on Wikipedia for example) and you know the programming language, you still may be looking at an hour or two of t

If I was hellbent on doing that, I’d likely pull it off anyway. It seems like a massive trouble to avoid something quite rare.

These leave-on-the-day layoffs are really strange to me. Unless there was a bankruptcy or something, I'd most likely be convinced by management to stay my entire period of notice (3 months) because the company would need to PAY me 100%

Depends. I wouldn’t want to work in the oil industry if I could avoid it. But I’m sure it could be greenwashed, even to myself. I’d have no second thoughts about working in defense (I’m from a small country on Russia’s doorstep, not the US

The reason I’m on year 20 with an employer is because they tick those boxes. And also box 5: reasonably interesting/challenging/creative work. For me as a software developer that’s as simple as ”not making CRUD webapps”.

Exactly. And in that context I really don’t care. Similarly if I wrote the blog post. People can leave after the first paragraph because it’s uninteresting. If they leave because it looks generated it’s the same thing. Writing in an inter

Denmark can put some constraints for ships passing the straits. They are danish water. So the Baltic is special in that you can’t reach it on international water. Similar to the Black Sea. But these restrictions are codified in existing ag

I don’t think we’ll want to be in a war of escalating service-denial with a country full of people used to not having indoor plumbing. Seems like we’d suffer more.

Since these cables are repaired within days or up to 2 weeks it seems, it can’t cost a fortune. A reasonably sized ship sounds like it would pay for it easily. Especially as authorities seem to have trouble finding those responsible. Tracin

False positives aren’t a big problem. There’s more content than I have time to read and my tolerance for reading anything generated is zero. So it’s better to label too much human content as generated and risk ignoring something insightful
