It's certainly reaching "maturity". And I'd say it's improving still but the improvements are small (which is expected at that point). I wouldn't say it's past its peak because it's still improving an

I'd say it's never been better tbh. I can't speak for Gen Z but .NET (for some reason) was never the choice of startups. Possibly because there is still a cost associated with the best developer experiences, such as for the b

It kind of is more confusing because I always imagined the RHS to be evaluated first in an assignment, before the target is evaluated. The motivation is that you don't want the side effects in some cases like GetNextId() but I think i

When you don't, you'd likely have an Maybe<string> for a username that would be a "string?" in C#. It's the same thing (more or less). For your optional type you still need some form of pattern matching to f

Yes, this doesn't actually add anything to the "size" of the language, if anything it actually shrinks it. It's existing syntax (the ? and ?? operators) and existing semantics. The only thing was that it worked in half t

I'm a developer since 30 years. I program C#, Rust, Java, some TS etc. I can probably go to most repositories on github and at least clone and build them. I have failed - repeatedly - to build even small C++ libraries despite reasonabl

> Yes, C++ can be unsafe if you don’t know what you’re doing. But here’s the thing: all programming languages are unsafe if you don’t know what you’re doing. I think this is one of the worst (and most often repeated arguments) about C++.

I love the Spotify era where artists actually want, and some times need, to go on tour again. And while some artists might be capable of producing new good music, the sad fact is that the music we enjoy most was the one from our youth. So i

What exactly is the plan? To mandate some client side checking so that transfer encryption backdoors won't be needed? At what level would you need to do that? E.g. for iOS and then iOS need to comply with every app store app having it

I see people every day who have their iphone in their back pocket while sitting. I can’t imagine this model would handle that unless it’s made from pure unobtanium.

Make it an obscure option in the first time setup so all the users that click next next next will end up with the secure mode, while the open mode requires fiddling. This isn’t a gdpr opt out where both alternatives need to be equally easy.
