I guess it depends on what you learn from the subject. The general attitude I have is "Here's this thing, let's think about it", rather than "ZOMG, drop your ifs, they are BAD"

I was talking in terms of the constructs which the language can provide to avoid ifs. > And suggests that this is better: It depends in what terms are you thinking. A syntactic improvement is a also a benefit, isn't it?

> "ifs are a smelly thing in a Object Oriented language." It is partially my fault because I failed to express what I really ment. English not my native, so sorry. What I really ment in this sentece is "why using (a lot of) ifs can be a

You did not read the article, by no means I suggest to get rid of the IFs completely.

I don't think I agree with the fact that every time you isolate a piece of logic you add a layer. But I don't think I have a solid argument for that yet :) You do make a good point though that in having many small objects is easy to mess wi

I guess, but I am not informed enough to make a well-grounded statement about this. I guess this is Don't-keep-your-logic-in-delivery pattern.

So far, I got a lot of feedback here and on my blog, which I didn't expect (also the frontpage). There seems to be a general attitude of "why complicating things from day 1?" towards the article I wrote. While I do agree that there is no ne

If you do TDD, I don't see how this slows you down when you are isolated from the start. (Rails takes ~1 second to boot in the beginning). And you are right, this was not intended to be presented as refactoring pattern, although it qualifie

I don't understand what is the problem of having a lot of small classes? They are there when you need them, and they get out of the way you don't, and I think that's the most important thing.

Please note that this difference is only in this scenario (rake routes), it largely varies in other ones. Also, a big part of falcon patch is the ruby 2.0 garbage collector, which obviously will be available in ruby 2.0.
