Looks cool. I feel like you should try and integrate with existing Haskell concepts. Maybe you'd have to make small changes in the design decisions compared to jQuery, but honestly, using the typical Haskell abstractions things just se

I think we need a new paradigm name, something like denotational programming. I think very few people who are into functional programming argue that functions are the right abstraction for expressing every problem, which is why there are th

I'd say his use of the word "escalate" would mean to start somewhere innocuous, touching a shoulder or whatever, and go from there. You portray the potential customer of this as some kind of rapist dreg, but I'm guessing

This was really nice, always great to get this kind of stuff in question/answer form. Making you think a little before getting the answer, as opposed to just in the form of some dense reading really makes this type of stuff stick in me

Is it impossible to have an open DRM parametrized by some sort of secret key/cryptography/whatever? Honest question.

Just saying that DRM doesn't concern me. I don't feel it infringes on my rights, so no need to complain. It's an (my) opinion, feel free to complain as much as you prefer. Of course I also feel that businesses need a legitimate means of get

I don't see how DRM is incompatible with their goals. Of course one might argue that DRM might be platform specific. However, I very much doubt this standard will make DRM more platform specific than it already is.

I doubt killing Hollywood will be the solution. Industry will always try to gain unfair advantages through legislation as long as we let them. That is, as long as government is too large to really care about the little guy. Harmful legislat

DRM allows you to volontarily give up whatever control of your machine you're talking about. As painful as it is, one part of living in a capitalist society is to exercise your right/power as a consumer. Don't like it? Don't use it. To me,

Haskell has support for side-effects. It's just able to state the property that something is a 100% pure function, and also makes it very easy to write such code a lot of the time.

Clojure is a great language, but there really is a difference between functional and "pretty" functional; e.g. as in, I know 100% sure that this function has no side-effects. Static typing can do a lot of good, but the stricter semantics

As I'm on a 12-inch thinkpad with fairly high res, meaning the PPI is pretty high, I have to zoom into websites all the time. This template handles zooming quite nice I think. Longing for the day of viewport-sized units though.

What does this mean for the potential of compiler optimization in Perl? You can't really throw around optimizations that work for 99% of the time. I feel like the type of work that's done by browsers on JIT compiling Javascript would be rea

I support patents, just not software patents. You can spend billions developing a new drug, and companies need to get reimbursed somehow for that, or everybody loses. How much you think was been spent "inventing" two-factor authentication?

I don't find it helpful to mix in copyright/intellectual property into this discussion as there is no reason why you can't support these while not supporting the patenting of ideas. Personally I don't regard two-step authentication, or soft

In Haskell one typically eschews exceptions in favor of for instance the Error monad, as you don't get a typical stack trace in a lazily evaluated language. Probably they have experienced some exception during development, but have had no e
