If you're using screen/tmux as myself, tail -f remains a good option, as you can enter gaps or search, or do 1000 more things as compared to plain terminal session

Couple apt-cyg with a batch script to install updates unattended - this made cygwin much nicer: cd C:\distr\cygwin setup-x86_64.exe --no-desktop --no-shortcuts --no-startmenu --quiet-mode

I'm happily using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freerdp.af... for direct RDP connection Windows (and Linux with xrdp installed). Might take a port forward to setup, but direct RDP quality

my favorite use of strace to learn which files (especially config files) are being open by a new daemon/tool: strace -f -s1024 2>&1|grep open also remember also useful 'ltrace' - libraries tracing

Your comment must be entirely about Containers for Windows (by Parallels), which is not what the article and most of the discussions are about. Containers for Linux on the contrary are not prone to host "corruption"

I agree about VMs for VPS offering. But i believe no improvements in hardware or (para)virtualization will get VMs closer to Containers in other (non-VPS) scenarios
