Yes ,there is a shortage. It depend based on what language and framework. Nowdays php or java or javascript got lot of framework.For a junior developer to master each of it,quite some time.

i don't regard moving from xxx language to PHP.Is the point where if PHP don't support,use JAVA call.If both cannot support USE .NET.. for web i prefer PHP.For compile application i prefer VB.NET compare to PHP GTK..

1. Ya it's hard. 2. err unknown ,but sometimes when customer delay payment and wanted to prolong the contract quite hard.Some cheater also. Conclusion Be friend with all people not just computer geeks friend.
