I believe I hear pitch correction whenever it's used. Do you have an example where it is used and I would struggle to hear it?

That's quite expensive. In Barcelona the scheme is a fixed €47 subscription per year though you can only use the bike for 30 mins per ride (after that there's a surcharge).

Problem is that grabbing the last frame buffer would mean you're doing it post decompression. To distribute something you grabbed like that you'd need to recompress it and then have a generation degradation of lossy compression.

Even if I don't like DRM, I don't believe a closed source DRM is any more perfect than an open source one. There's a strong link to cryptography here, and in that area an open source encryption is no less perfect than a close

Maybe there could be room for innovation here? Signed font sets with known hashes (maybe piggyback on HTTP ETag?), so over time your browser has a cache of "well known fonts". Things like Source Sans Pro are not unusual.

I'm really surprised all the typography options require downloadable fonts (Source Sans Pro and/or Merriweather). I'm on a 1mbit throttled connection right now, and it's really noticeable, even on these pages, the font l

I agree. I used to argue like the author, that null is a thing in computing and I just had to deal with it. But after spending some time in Rust and Swift, I learnt a whole new way of thinking about it. The killer combination is: no null +

Yes, I did spend large parts of my java developer looking at class loaders and class loading delegations in servlet containers etc. I think it's a bit too hard to get it right. Like, suddenly some third party library starts pulling in

I think it depends a bit on class of errors. Certainly not everything is suitable for this treatment. Lost connectivity to RabbitMQ or Elasticsearch would mean our site is dead anyhow (you can't do anything). So either of those errors

Yes. We're almost now risking it going the other way, that some bad programming goes unchecked for a long time, because overall, the process sort of does what it should. Even if it restarts like 10 times a day.

Judging by how sluggish and annoying the HSBC app is, I think it is a web app framed in a thin launcher from the app store. I.e. it downloads a bunch of javascript/html/css and that executes within a UIWebView/WKWebView. Usin

It's a bit different. For system level programming you have a choice to get around C/C++. For browser programming, or full stack in a single language, you have less choice, and none if you reject transpiling.

Yes indeed. The swedish monarchy still doesn't need to account for how they spend their "appanage", i.e. tax payers' money. And they still get this money even though they are wealthy enough to not rely on state subsidies

Oh you don't mean "lobbying", because that word is these days legally defined, and most actors in that sector prefer to see themselves as advisors, influencers and think tanks. Certainly not filthy lobbyists.
