Its only removed from the default install. A lot of fedora users (e.g. desktops) don't really need most of what syslog can do, and those that do can easily install it.

This is funny. You know that window minimization is not in the X11 spec either, right? Its something that X window managers handle internally (just like on Wayland where this is an internal compositor thing). Of course, desktop apps wanted

"flatten" is a simplification, what I mean is that the devicemapper thin provisioning module uses a data structure on disk that has a complexity that is independent of the snapshot depth. I did not mean that the Docker image itsel

That depends on the backend a bit i guess. devicemapper "flattens" each layer, so the depth should have zero effect on the performance. For aufs, I have no real data, but I assume that a 42 layer image is somewhat slower than a 1

Obviously it would be a "virtual" gigabyte-size stack. I.e. it would be mmapped, but all the threads would not actually be using all their stack. Physical memory is not allocated, but virtual addresses are.

The process docker runs in the container can be /sbin/init, which spawns an entire OS. Its just not how its normally used.

The one thing i don't like about the lowlevel compiled js stuff is the complete absence of threads. There is no way to get real game-like performance on a modern multi-core CPU in a single threaded language.

1) Udev doesn't do anything about separate /usr, its systemd that does. Both are in the same source tree but unrelated at runtime(i.e. udev can be used without systemd). 2) systemd only prints a warning about separate /usr, it then contin

Yeah, and then some other thread opens a file descriptor while your loop is busy closing the last few file descriptors... CLOEXEC approaches are the only race free solutions.

I don't understand this reasoning. Sure, not everyone is a design genius. But, if you're not (and how do you know?), what are you supposed to do? It just seem like you're arguing that everyone (except Jobs) should not try to have any contro

While its true that a new "WM" in wayland would be a diffent binary its not really the same as a different X server. All the stuff that X does wrt hardware and stuff is not really in the wayland compositor, but in the drivers, and they are

Not really. All you need to be able to do is to produce the first byte of whatever would have been produced in the "fallback case", i.e. when the reader does not handle format negotiation. Then, when the writer sees that the reader supports

Its doable yeah, but its a lot more work. First you have to handle the header specially (want it in the result but not in the comparisons). In order to compare by uid you need numeric uids (-n), but that means you can't also get the readabl

No, I avoid the race condition by: 1) Reader sets the lock before reading any data 2) Writer writes a byte to the pipe 3) Writer waits until pipe is empty (FIONREAD ioctl) 4) Writer checks for existance of lock. This should be race free.

Yes, the weak link here is obviously getting all kinds of output into the pipes 2.0 format. Triggering such output via format negotiation is possible, but you still would have to add support for actually outputting it.
