Oh no I am speaking of licensing the graphics engine underneath to devs so they can distribute their own standalone games in the app store, without users having to download this app.

Only partially. This code isn't portable. This is more analogous to a game engine, it's a development engine. Along with not being portable, the code can't be distributed. If the developer offered some package with their rendering engin

I'm just curious, do you feel like this was a meaningful contribution to this discussion? 0 added value, and virtually no insight in your post. Your post has nothing to do with what they've created.

I would assume compile is very quick, as the only thing happening is the Lua the user writes is being added to the game logic and interpreted. Everything else, the rendering engine and such, comes already done with the app. Lua has very f

Lua is pretty popular in graphics. When Apple tightened restrictions on APIs and programming languages that developers were allowed to use in the app store, one that got a pass was Lua. It's used in most games, so companies like EA would

Events like this sound like they'd be great things to attend. Too bad we (my teammate and I) are without the resources to attend. Are there any HNers attending who are not from the valley? Unfortunately the only time I've been in the vall

Apple launches new hardware with new software features. ALWAYS. Siri is the, "What if I could just talk to my device, and it would be able to disambiguate and give me exactly what information I wanted." Okay, Siri explained. Just like Fac

Also, you can drag and drop multiple images. We didn't really restrict anything. Give it a shot.

I guess. But it doesn't feel innovative. I'd much rather be seeing an article about a small startup I've never heard of doing something neat with HTML, rather than an article about a large established company, whose business model is based

After looking through it, these pages seem light on content, aside from the fact that they want you to distribute apps through their platform. A select listing of links to somewhat useful sites. Not sure that this is worthy of front page

Yeah very true. I also kind of fail to see the utility of the bot beyond a whimsical demo. And there doesn't appear to be much of a real demonstration of it's benefit.

Hey HN! We just officially launched with a big set of updates we pushed last night. We'd love your thoughts and feedback. Here's and example of something an early registrant made with our tools: http://drawwith.me/kyle/23-Can-I-be-Frank-

yeah, I don't understand all the attention given to bitcoin. It's not like it's a system that's immune to systematic manipulation. Anyone operating under the assumption that bitcoin is a stable system is naive. I'm open to being wrong abo

I agree with you. Devs could be writing 2D WebGL based games with killer effects today. Getting into it, and then transition to 3D when the APIs are ready. But such is the state of the web. There are other things WebGL is good for as wel

It depends on who submitted it. We submitted early, but have made small revisions every day, aside from two large revisions in the last day or two. I guess we were not too worried about it. If it's going to work, it's going to work.

Agreed. This article is ridiculous. But hey, people love to read stories about Apple, no matter how fabricated and unrealistic they may be. Every article posted from TechCrunch should get a warning label placed on it.

Actually, I think those problems will be solved before audio. Audio is in a terrible state with the web. We need a good 3D sound API. Flash? Ugh. Write the entire app in WebGL/JS/html and then go to flash?

I definitely understand the response. If you have to ask if you're an entrepreneur, if you have to even think about it, you're not. I get that. However for someone like me it's not so simple. I have two years of school left in the midwe

I guess I can come around to how this might be useful for some effects. I don't necessarily think it would be useful for 2D games though, as there's a lot going on there so you might be better off to just do a 2D-canvas based game.

My friend (and co-founder) and I have applied for winter 2012. Even if we don't get in, I don't think it will change much of who we are, or what we're driven by. But I guess my biggest question has been this: In the event that we (any anyo

I guess I'm just trying to understand why Abobe went the route of turning DOM elements into 3D rendering contexts, instead of just giving developers a way to get textures from DOM elements, and decide how to use those textures themselves.

I guess I'm not convinced. Can someone explain the utility of 3D printing beyond rapidly building prototypes? Can it really reach scale and quality to do mass manufacturing? And what types of products could not in any way be manufactured
