If you have a single deployable(1), I think you need to have a person/team responsible for the whole. They need to be trusted to work on any of the code to make the whole build, without overstepping into micromanaging the whole code ba

The licence seems messed up. You can opt to use an MIT licence, but only if you're noncommercial or you pay. The MIT licence explicitly states that the software is provided free of charge, and can be sublicensed, so anyone with an MIT

I'd have thought that the phone itself isn't connected to the Internet? Rather it would be connected to a series of secure routers/switches, which themselves would have rather limited Internet connectivity as well (preferring

I think it's misleading to say iteration or full rewrites are the only 2 options. The most impactful, yet successful, projects I've worked on rewrite a part of a system. ie replace a custom search index by Solr, but leave the data

FWIW, domestic ISPs in the UK are lagging on IPv6; I'm with Vrigin Media and, afaict, there is no immediate plan to deploy it either.

https://web.archive.org/web/20120616044022/http://www.iso.or... Apparently "United" and "Kingdom" aren't valid for ISO, so they went with ignoring part of the name completely.

But do the root name servers _have_ to respect the ICANN zone file?

Right, but confusingly, GB is the ISO 2 code for the United Kingdom, even though the United Kingdom is much bigger than Great Britain, where the GB abbreviation comes from.

I've read both the Paxos and Raft papers a few times, and hacked on some implementations, but never quite got one over the line to working... Raft strikes me as a particular set of decisions made within a Paxos framework, such as havin

I use Docker Desktop on both my macbooks, despite shunning IDEs in favour of a decent text editor and the command line. I use it for 2 reasons: to manage the Linux VM, and to twiddle the occasional setting. For running the containers themse

Jumping on the bandwagon of other ideas... I wonder if it would be quicker to filter pit the internal headers when you write the request to the network (buffer)? ie something like `request_headers.filter(not_is_internal).for_each(...)`; tha

As long as it's done in the right way, I think a supplier raising safety concerns should be a reason to do _more_ business with them, not less.

I think the GP's point was that all modern languages (and some of the older ones) have this problem - in fact, JS is infamous for it. Therefore, I don't think it's really a pro or a con on its own - only in the context of you

To be clear, is the National Address Gazetteer open? As far as I can tell, it isn't, but I don't know if that's because they're trying to obfuscate it.
