I was building my first web app with SQLite and wondering why reducing database hits wasn’t doing all that much to improve performance. Thanks for the article.

There’s one major distinction between humans and animals: language. Not like “me want banana” language like in apes but like fully “ideas within ideas within ideas” language, with recursion and case and noun classes and all that. It’s incre

It’s not clear how (b) is relevant to the conversation. Regarding (a) I would have the exact same reply. Unless the word “equivalent” is playing a critical role for you, because it will be impossible to prove or disprove equivalence. My exp

How come for you the starting point is that animals do not have feelings and emotions like us, and that we have to have evidence for it? Why isn’t the starting point that they do have feelings like us and we have to find evidence against it

It's true. It wasn't mushrooms that almost killed me, but what I thought was a carrot. It was poison hemlock. You really can die out there. It depends on the intentions of the site. If the author is advertising it as a complete gu

I know strong opinions tend to be popular online, but I hope comments like this don't discourage people from learning and going out there. The books and internet are more than enough to stay safe.

The magic comes from the fact that you can decompose a translation (as in your example) into a bunch of little ones. So you want an operator that has the property that F(a)g(x) = g(x+a) = F(a/N)^N g(x). Equating F(a) to F(a/N)^N
