I think if you're trying to use the shell for something other than some basic program launch glue, you are doing it wrong. In C, readdir returns a perfectly usable struct dirent * with no parsing issues to worry about. Python also prov

Yes, you are right of course. I really just meant that "in practice" the growth of the string length (m) varies independently and common cases behave more like O(n) than O(n^2). Also that naive search is probably heavily optimized

O(m*n) is not the same as O(n^2).

You cherry-picked a bunch of old quotes from last year that don't accurately represent any of the people quoted. "It’s a great time to be an iOS developer." Marco Arment, June 6, 2014

@Override is optional in Java. All it does is validate that a superclass method with the same signature exists. It doesn't work in the other direction. This doesn't compile with Swift: class A { func foo() {

store.apple.com sells Logitech mice and keyboards. You can just right click with a mouse in OS X, even on an Apple Magic Mouse, though it does need to be enabled in preferences.

Java's performance relative to other commonly used languages is very good. It's basically been at 2-3x slower than C/C++ for quite a while.

I think mpweiher's point was that in normal Objective-C applications, the fact that message sending is slow is irrelevant. Yes, it is slower than a C function call, but it's rare that it is an issue in real code. When it was a pro
