I just ran this (using the PHP CLI) on my Lion MacBook Air and it took far, far longer than 30 seconds - 172, to be exact. Not being at all familiar with the underlying mechanisms, does anybody understand why it would take so much longer on

I swear, whenever I start to implement something for my Parse-based app, Parse just goes and adds it to their framework. Stop making my life so easy!

The Readme.md seems to imply that the Campfire configuration variables are non-optional, so it would seem not. Sounds like a fork waiting to happen, though.

It's tragic what is being lost in this race to the bottom for increased pageviews/audience share. I really want to believe that people like Gruber (who I, at least used to, have a great deal of respect for) are above it, but watching things

The update will still be delivered via Windows Update, it just won't prompt you like it previously did.

The title is a little sensationalist, isn't it? I mean, this would be annoying to encounter and should be fixed, but I don't imagine it'll cause the end of the world, as the title might suggest.

It works best with GitHub repositories, but you can use it for basic git commands with any git repository. I'm not sure that it supports pushing to/pulling from anything except GitHub, so you might still need GitX/Terminal.app for that. I c

Apple has to comply with its contract just as the developers do. I did just check the agreement and either party can terminate with 30 days' notice for any or no reason, so they could theoretically terminate. Given this is completely out of

I would doubt it - there's nothing illegal about reverse-engineering a protocol.

I was appalled when he claimed to have pitched 'OneBox' without having a clue about what it was. This description sort of reminded me of the way Sean Parker was portrayed in 'The Social Network'. Arrogant, irritating and fairly useless.

As I said below (above? Depends on how it renders), it's a valid argument. I guess the only real counterargument is that employers (by default) have a lot of power over their employees. If an employer decides to fire somebody, it'll make ve

It's a compelling argument, but if there wasn't "at-will" firing, this sort of underhanded "give us our shares back or we'll fire you" stuff that Zynga is purportedly doing couldn't happen without nasty court cases.

Yeah, of course. You might be required to give 2 weeks' notice or something and if you're contracted you might be liable for breach of contract but nobody's going to force you to work.

(I loved the example, by the way) How is that sequence so significantly different from (in iOS 5) double pressing the home button from the lock screen, touching 'Camera' then taking a photo? I'm not suggesting that camera phones are as good

"At-will"?! I had no idea that in California you could just terminate employment for no reason. Coming from Australia where you can't fire anybody without good reason (even demoting people can be considered unfair dismissal) this just sound

Compact cameras are still terrible in that regard; you can only get that 'off to photo taken in 0.3 seconds' with SLRs today. It's thus not really a valid argument for compact digital cameras still having relevance.

Chrome beta does prefetch URLs: download the latest version, go to a Wikipedia page, wait a few seconds then click the first link – it should appear (almost) instantly. I don't know if it prefetches links in webmail, however, and that would

It kind of reminds me of ASP.NET C# MVC, just glancing at the example page: http://au.php.net/manual/en/yaf.examples.php Not being particularly proficient in PHP, is the 'Class myClass extends baseClass' syntax normal? I've never seen it

Perhaps more interesting than WebGL is actually him documenting the process that he took in figuring out how it worked. I really wish I had a better understanding of disassembly.

That's not strictly fair. The Age online is absolute crap, but The Age in print is marginally better. I do, however, think that the media in general in Australia is abhorrent when compared with other countries, though.

You're exactly right - by killing productivity and massively increasing employment without reason, you're going to have massive increases in exogenous consumption. Fantastic, except where are all of these consumed goods going to come from?

I'm very glad to see this as a Melburnian. With so much emphasis on San Francisco as the startup-mecca, one almost feels disadvantaged living elsewhere in America, let alone in a country like Australia. Perhaps with things like the new IBM

I disagree - I speak British English and have never seen Store as a plural possessive before. I think it's just a mistake.
